Country at Heart (2020 TV Movie)

a let down
20 August 2022
I love Hallmark movies and I love the 2 leads in this movie but in my opinion, there was no chemistry. The conversation between the 2 leads were awkward and I love country music but really did not love the music in this show which was tuneless, it wasn't foot tapping and it didn't tug at the heartstrings.

Too much hostility
9 June 2021
This is just me, so nobody needs to tell me I am wrong kay ... Well, I watch Hallmark shows for sweetness and to restore the soul (again, that is just me).

So imagine my shock with this show. The quarrelling is alarming and too much like unpleasant real life to be enjoyable to watch. The hostility levels are so high, it made me cringe.

I think the 2 leads may actually dislike each other in real life!

The lead female role is so unpleasant, she is not watchable.

"Oh actually it's Mina" and she is SO rude and arrogant with her ex schoolmates. She is really unlikable.

Male lead miscast ...
27 July 2020
Just my personal view ...

I really thought I would love this show. For one, I really enjoyed Jen Lilley in Harvest Moon and The Spirit of Christmas. She plays the lead romantic female role really well.

And the cinematography was wonderful in this show. Beautiful scenery, brilliant Christmas decorations, lovely homes ... the story line is predictable but that is what we Hallmark fans want. A love story that is simple, simpler than most of our lives. So, I thought, I am going to love this show.

Also, the script deserves congratulatory mention. Jeff did EVERYTHING any girl would want in a boyfriend, who wouldn't want a boyfriend like that right?

Well ... not quite. I could not get past how effeminate Brant Daugherty's acting was in this movie. I had to google him and yes, he is married (to a woman). He is completely unbelievable as a romantic male lead in a hetero relationship. And what a pity! He is so tall and very handsome but his mannerisms ... if I were Jack McFarland (of Will and Grace), I would probably be in love with him.

I won't be watching this show again. It made me feel really misplaced for the 1.5 hours it played.

The Art of Us (2017 TV Movie)

Horror Show
26 July 2020
This is just my personal view.

Bleah! There was no, zero, zilch chemistry between the leads and the story line is really absurd.

We have a grown man, Tom Becker, who doesn't have PTSD (or so it is not mentioned in the show), who is a strong and intelligent man but who is drifting through life in a broken down houseboat with the only actual job he has as a dogwalker. What?! Are we supposed to find this kind of Hallmark lead actor romantic or attractive in any way? So the premise is thrown in that he is an army Vet. I think that insults Vets. I don't think vets would come home and be as happily unemployed as he is. And certainly nowhere close to being as dishonest. I would like to think that Vets are men of integrity and who would look to take on responsibilities in society - hey I could be completely wrong but regardless, this Tom Becker is presented to us as a lazy and deceitful man. Yucks!! Who wants to fall in love with that character?

I always think Taylor Cole should be renamed Taylor Cold. She is an ice queen and I have no idea why or how she is cast as the romantic actress in Hallmark movies. Her smile never reaches her eyes and she is stone cold. She also always acts the role of a spoilt woman who feels somehow entitled to whatever she wants. In this show, she wants to be tenured so she will lie to get what she wants and betray people who have put their trust in her. If I knew a person like this in real life, if I saw her headed my way, I would turn tail and run.

And the person in charge of wardrobe should be counselled. Harper wore what appeared to be football gear to the cocktail party. The straps of her dress made her shoulders look so bulked up, all that was missing was the face paint below her eyes and her helmet and she would be ready for a touchdown. Really horrible to the point of shudder to see her come down the stairs in that dress. And Tom says she looks beautiful. I didn't know if I was supposed to laugh or cry in horror.

The only bond the two leads have in this show is in the shared lie and the threat of mutual destruction they both live under. And mutual destruction is bestowed upon them sure enough. And if you can believe it, the movie ends on that note. Whaaaat?!

Come to think of it, both Harper and Tom deserve each other. They are both peas in a very rotting pod.

Seriously, don't bother watching this show. Other than the beautiful art pieces, the human beings in this show are so far from beautiful, this might as well be a horror show.

Tulips in Spring (2016 TV Movie)
10/10
Hallmark at it's VERY best
26 July 2020
This has to be my most favourite Hallmark movie (and I have watched a lot!). I wish I could give it more stars!!

The main story arc and the sub plots of this movie are all amazing and fit so well together.

I don't think I have watched Fiona Gubelmann (who acts as Rose) before but I was impressed with her fantastic acting skills. Many other Hallmark lead actresses should take a leaf from her page and learn that to be attractive, they do not need to smile 95% of the movie - which frankly, is sickening to the point of diabetes.

I also really like the character development of Rose as a person. She is independent enough to strike out on her own but knows where her roots are. At the start she gives this epic fail speech to the crew but within minutes, we see her so loved by the family client. She is neither an unnaturally raving success nor is she a failure. She is a real character we can all relate to. It was lovely to watch her talk to the tulip she planted - something about planting it with friends to encourage it to grow. I would say however, that her work skirts are absurdly short for any woman who wants to be taken seriously in a work place.

Lucas Bryant is an equally amazing actor. I watched him in 'Summer Love' where he was also incredible as the romantic lead actor. He is so attractive with an even mix of rugged and urban. If I had to dream up a boyfriend, it would be very much like him! Hunk is really the right word to describe him. I wish he would appear in more Hallmark movies! As Tom, he is ethical and reliable. The man of the show literally.

Together, their chemistry in this movie is off the charts!! The way they looked at each other and the kiss on the porch. WOW. The longing, the tentativeness, the dialogue so well delivered. Best Hallmark kiss I have seen in a very long time.

And I love their dialogue throughout the show. After watching shows like Flip that Romance where the dialogue between the two leads was so toxic, the conversation between Rose and Tom in this show is beautiful. They gently tease each other with no quarrelsome note and no attempt to one up each other. Unlike the leads in Hometown holiday, Rose and Tom have really deep and meaningful conversations and when they talk with each other, you get the sense that these are two adults having a respectful but heartfelt dialogue where they really get to know each other, where they come from and who they are.

Thank goodness there was no petty and childish misunderstanding in this movie. And since I have had enough of scenes where one cleans a stain off the other persons face as part of a scriptwriters absurd attempt at closeness, I thought it was brilliant that when Tom pointed out that Rose had a stain on her face, instead of reaching in and cleaning it off himself, she made a second stain on the other cheek and he just laughed it off like it was so adorable but he knew it wasn't for him to touch her face at that point in time. And she did not throw a hissy fit when she must have realised it - phew.

Near the end of the show, Tom comes up and wraps Rose up tightly in his arms. Omg, we gals should all be so lucky! And she does what we would love to do, snuggle into his arms hahaha. The tenderness between them is so real and something we all aspire to if we haven't already found it in our own lives.

Then there is the sub plot between Rose and her father. That is a relationship we watch healing before our eyes and it is a thing of beauty to watch. A real tear jerker actually, especially when her father tells her how proud he is of her in the hot house and she breaks down and cries - that was a really convincing moment by the way, kudos to Fiona Gubelmann! For any of us who have a strained relationship with a parent, this show would appeal to us on that level.

And Rose's parents are completely inspiring to watch. The love they have for each other comes across really beautifully. They really live up to the marriage vows of 'for better or worse, in sickness and in health.' Through the uncertainty of losing their tulip farm and with his broken leg, their love endures and flourishes. Watching them makes me want to believe in marriage again!

If you only have time to watch one Hallmark movie, I respectfully suggest you watch this one. I absolutely loved it from start to finish.

Hometown Holiday (2018 TV Movie)

Stars only for Stephen Huszar and Kevin McGarry
26 July 2020
This review is just my personal view but ...

How old is Bradley Hamilton?! He is certainly very good looking but he looks and behaves like he should be in high school (albeit he would be the cool high school kid). And we are supposed to believe his character, Ryan, is a high powered lawyer? He has the confidence level of a snail. He is so useless at his job that his hysterical pregnant sister has to have a public meltdown with Wes to help Ryan's career along. And we are supposed to believe that this Ryan character is on track to make partner? He doesn't look like he can tie his shoelaces without his sister's help! As much as we love sappy love stories, some things are too much of a stretch even for us!

Watching Ryan and Krista on their courtship journey was really uncomfortable because they both look underage and Sarah Troyer is a beautiful woman who should try smiling less because after some time, it is annoying and unreal. Her character is forward and she has no problem walking up to a stranger and asking him to dance which is fine but then she complains that the guy in her shower (!) was trying to be too forward? Can't be both sides of the coin gal.

Also, why wear heels she then had to take off to dance which for her was shifting her body weight from her left leg to the right leg - that wasn't charming, it was ridiculous. Wear heels only if you can actually wear heels.

Ryan tells her of his tragic childhood and her response is "Wow that's deep." Seriously?! She is simpering and a pretty awful actress who delivers her lines unconvincingly.

Ashley's crush on Wes is not real and pretty stupid. They haven't spoken since high school and I get that they barely spoke even back then! At the party, Wes comes up to Ashley to talk to her and she just stands there dreamy eyed and doesn't say a word. Of course they are in love right? No!

Krista and Ryan's relationship is also absurd ... they went on one (barely) date and she is already tagging him as "the one" - what kind of ridiculous thinking is that?? She knew so little about him that she didn't even know he is a lawyer. Girls, can you please both up your understanding of what it is to be in a relationship and stop with your childish notions which will only end in divorce! I don't think any family member would encourage a wedding proposal after their brother has gone only on 2 dates with a girl. Mental. Of course then on the 3rd date, they quarrel over petty and jumped to conclusions. But by all means, please propose and get married.

It is really tragic that the real male leads in the show got relegated to support roles - Stephen Huszar and Kevin McGarry - both were totally wasted in this show. We want more of them please! I hope both get cast as the romantic leads in more shows whilst Bradley Hamilton is given time to grow up. He could be Batman or Superman in say 15 years.

Stephen Huszar and Kevin McGarry on the other hand are perfect. Very handsome, very charming and their swoon qualities are rocket high! Their acting range is also amazing. They both are completely convincing in whatever role they are given from detective/mounty to powerful rich CEOs to ranch owners.

P.s how long was that poor woman pregnant for?? On Labour Day (ironic), she says she was 6 months preggers and in December she is STILL pregnant? That makes her FOURTEEN months pregnant and six months overdue!! NOBODY in the entire show realised this little fun fact?? And Ryan announced baby as coming two weeks early?? Hahahahaaaa hysterical!

The stars I have given are for Stephen Huszar and Kevin McGarry only.

Flip That Romance (2019 TV Movie)

Toxic lead actress
25 July 2020
I wanted to enjoy this show. I really did. I decided against re-watching my perennial Hallmark favourite movies (there is a long list) to watch this show for the first time.

I have seen Tyler Hynes in other movies and he is an amazing romantic lead - one of the most attractive Hallmark men! He is charming, handsome, so sexy and pretty smouldering in the way he looks at his female leads - you can feel the longing! So I was really excited he was in this movie. He always comes across as strong and dependable. I don't really have much complaints there except that I think he was given a terrible lead actress to play across. She is stressful to watch all through the show.

Well maybe it was more the character than the actress but still! Jules is SO annoying and childish! She is catty and is wound tighter than a climbing ivy (for lack of a better comparison that comes to mind). The bickering just went on and on from her side and she is petty and irresponsible to put up a bid she cannot afford just to one up her ex. Every conversation between her and Lance is an opportunity she takes to drop bitter sarcastic comments his way. I cringed everytime it looked like they were going to speak to each other because her special version of venom is toxic in any show, much less a Hallmark show. A very bitter personality behind a pretty face.

And then we get the great reveal. The huge sin she holds against him is that ... he moved (or demolished?) the master cupboard?? What? And that he moved away to further his career? Yeah, he is a real cad. Come on.

I cannot believe how awful she was to the guy in the flooring shop. Was his education level or the colour of his skin or his clothes not up to her standard that she had to ask to speak to the manager only to discover that he IS the manager? She is really a horrible person to assume that he wasn't the manager. And what on earth was with that hostile, childish and very entitled melt down she had in that shop? I kind of lost interest in her ending up with Lance after that.

Of course her black heartedness immediately jumps to accusing Lance of being black hearted enough to sabotage her kitchen permit. Yikes she is really not a nice person.

OH MY GOD. He is paying for extra help to paint the house and she throws a hissy fit in his face??? "Why didn't you consult me?" He is PAYING for the cost woman! Ugh!!!

Why is Lance so silly to even want a woman like that? He is better off as a person and as a professional without her. Why does he need to keep apologising to Jules when actually, she needs to be the one apologising - all the time. The storyline threw the 2 leads together at every turn but their relationship did not develop between bitter and twisted so the kisses at the end ... did aliens take over their characters?

It is nice to see Cardi Wong say more than 3 sentences in a movie he is in and to actually be cast as a professional at something other than mixing drinks and handling hotel guests laundry - as he did in other shows.

I'm really disappointed this show wasn't better. The writers really should have eased up on toxic nastiness from Jules.

Christmas Belle (2013 TV Movie)

Well done!
23 July 2020
I really have no clue why there are so many negative reviews of this show.

Hunter is supposed to be the Beast. He is, as he should be, a tortured soul who lashes out but who has enough courage to know when he is wrong and who is man enough to apologize. And hey, anybody who loves a dog has beauty within him.

Belle is not a doormat as some reviews say she is. She stood her ground, refused to accept being yelled at and even quit when she felt Hunter's behavior was too much. She is a modern day heroine.

I suppose Angie is the sole accumulation of the furniture that talked and acted as a go between between Beauty and the Beast.

I don't think the love story was contrived and not believable. I think Hunter saw Belle's beauty, outside and inner beauty and I think her standing up to him woke him from a stupor he had fallen into. And I don't get the complaints about the love story happening too fast either. They did wait one year before finally getting married.

Tony is supposed to be Gaston and so of course, he is to come across as a womanizing jerk. And there are complaints about the actor who played Belle's father but in the fairy tale, her father is pretty 'useless' in that he is wrapped up in his own world and is not really looking after his daughter very well so actually, this actor is doing a pretty good portrayal.

Haylie Duff is beautiful as Belle and Nicholas Gonzalez ... why would anyone complain about seeing him with his shirt off? Haha ... no complaints here. He portrays the quiet but strong man really well. He is a bit of an idiot for believing Tony though but oh well, love makes people crazy 😊

I was fine with the music. I felt it was a good sweeping backdrop to the story line.

And ... I love that scruffy dog!

When Angels Come to Town (2004 TV Movie)

Wow, could not have been more terrible
23 July 2020
Putting aside that this movie moved slower than a snail high on drugs, this was a TERRIBLE show.

Jo the angel throws herself physically at Karl, grabbing him and kissing him and she is old enough to be his mother. A horny cougar angel?? How offensive is that to those who believe in angels?? Hallmark, you should really know better.

The entire mood of this show, despite it being about angels supposedly, was so heavy and depressing. There was no light, even when the so-called angels appeared. 95% of the show, Karl is in financial crisis and Sally is upset about her brother and they are both soddingly unhappy people! Yes I get these are real life problems but do BOTH the leads have to have such depressing lives and personalities? In a Hallmark movie?

If these two don't need to be talked off the ledge, I will be on the ledge myself by the end of this show - if I last that long. Nah, I can't continue watching ...

Surprised by Love (2015 TV Movie)

After 140 HM movies, this one is the best!
23 July 2020
After watching over 140 Hallmark movies, I am declaring this to be my favourite. This movie will literally make you laugh and cry and it will tug at your heart strings - at least it did for me.

To start, the humour is almost unprecedentedly actually funny compared to other Hallmark movies. I really laughed out loud when Josie was talking about her parent's party on the phone and Max asked her "Coronation?" and then again when Josie and Richard came to the park in their business suits and Max asked "Corporate takeover of (could have been "in") the park?" Paul Campbell's comic timing was absolute genius throughout the show.

The Mayfield family dynamics would remind many of us of our own family dynamics and it is so wonderful to see how it all worked out for them. Fills the world with hope! The entire Mayfield family cast are brilliant from the younger sister to the grandfather. They are real, they are likeable/understandable characters despite their flaws and they love each other at the end of the day - awwwww!

I just wish Max could have had a better career path and not been such a hippie character which is not normally seen as desirable in this day and age but otherwise, I could not wax more lyrical about this show.

Perfect chemistry between Josie and Max and they had us rooting for them all the way.

Probably the first time in 140 Hallmark movies I really wish there is a sequel. For now, considering I caught this movie on Youtube, my wish is that Amazon would restock the DVD so that I can order a copy!

If I could give this movie more stars, I would.

The Rooftop Christmas Tree (2016 TV Movie)
5/10
Spend 1.5 hours for the last 5 minutes
21 July 2020
I am all for the lead actor or actress of a romantic movie to look a bit older than the usual kids who run around Hallmark/Up movies getting married and these young brides who are bridezillas but the lead actress in this show, Michelle Morgan, looked too old to be paired with the likes of Stephen Huszar. I am sure she is great in other shows and I love Stephen Huszar especially in Ruby Herring Murder Mysteries but the pairing in this movie is not great.

I think the show's hair stylist should have given Michelle Morgan a softer hairstyle with a fringe. She looked like a pale Christmas ghost and so was not appealing to watch. I think she could look beautiful but she did not in this show. She looked pinched and old.

In contrast, the hair sylist gave Stephen Huszar a youngish, juvenile hair style. Was not a fan of his heavily swept back gelled hair.

The lead actress looks so old that her mother and father look like her sister (believably as Michelle's younger sister at that) and brother. Easing up on the eyeliner may have made her look younger. And cheek blusher ... use the cheek blusher ... this is not the tale of the Christmas ghost.

I don't like Sarah's character. She jumps to jealous conclusions about John's sister instead of finding out more. I thought lawyers dealt with facts rather than suppositions? And why does she look so unhappy, tired and discontented all the time? Even in a 'love scene' she looks like this. It was quite unpleasant watching her (just in my opinion, I am sure many others loved watching her).

There was no basis for the first kiss between Sarah and John. No basis for the second or third kiss for that matter - it all happened too fast so the 'relationship' was not believable.

And as a DPP, how many more times will John 'favour' Sarah and her clients? Yes I get that this was a case that required more heart than law but Lady Justice is blind and John is certainly not - doesn't inspire respect in us for his DPP role. Maybe he should go work in Sarah's company instead. He would have been a far more attractive romantic lead if he had more backbone or work integrity. He could have maintained his legal stance and still helped her somehow but he sort of just rolled over for his tummy to get scratched. Too vanilla for my taste.

But casting and romance aside, this show is worth watching for the father and son reunion, that made me cry! Awwww ... the magic of Christmas never fails to touch the heart.

I Do, I Do, I Do (2015 TV Movie)

I do ... Want to watch this again!
21 July 2020
The main reason I love this show is because it is all about the marriage and not the wedding (even though the wedding does take place over and over again). Too many Hallmark movies make life to be all about the wedding, almost as if the perfectly executed wedding would absolutely guarantee the absolutely perfect marriage - which is the premise of every Bridezilla that graces the screen.

Honestly, I had really low expectations when I started watching this show. If the acting is bad and the characters unlikeable, who wants to watch them do the same thing over and over and over again ala Groundhog day style.

Fortunately, Autumn Reeser is amazing in this show and she really carries the movie. She is believable, likeable and we feel for her but are delighted to see her embrace her situation and make it work for her - you go gal!

I have never liked Antonio Cupo in any Hallmark movie - to me and just to me (I am sure there are many women who think he is fabulous), there is something very effeminate about his mannerisms and for the fact that he has Italian blood and is so tall with great features, one would imagine him to cut a dashing and charming Hallmark lead, which to me, he is not. I have never seen him look at his female leads with any believable chemistry and this movie is no different which works fine, I guess, because he is not the lead romantic actor.

And then there is Shawn Roberts, the actual lead romantic actor. I saw him in 'Recipe in Love', that was a nice show as was this one, but there is just something about him that I am not crazy about. He has a smile that is too 'jock' to be taken seriously and it is like he is trying too hard to be charming.

I do however love the chemistry between Jacyln and Max and I like the premise that they spend so much time together before falling in love - even if he doesn't actually remember anything but hey, if they have proven to be good together on days he can't remember, they will be good together on future days together so I like!

p.s. I am not sure why a couple of reviews say that Ali married Antonio ... didn't Autumn marry Antonio (over and over again at that). Ali was the sister no? #confused

Charming Christmas Love Story
21 July 2020
Oh gosh! What a beautiful story! The premise would seem to indicate quite a silly tale but this story is anything but.

There is something very mature about a love that has to be choose between two parties (whilst no one is married of course). Giving up current boyfriend Brett for maybe boyfriend Jamie can be quite scary and it takes Isobel guts to do it especially when current boyfriend is so nice to her, albeit he is nice in his own interpretation of nice. Brett comes off as sufficiently nice and obnoxious at the same time and it is amusing watching him.

But the chemistry between Brett who kisses her on the cheek compared to Jamie who takes every opportunity to kiss her on the lips is easily compared. Also, I love the witty repartee between Isobel and Jamie - this script was very well written and carried off to, dare I say it, perfection by the 2 leads.

Alicia Witt and Gabriel Hogan play the chemistry so well and so beautifully that we root for them from the start. There is something so sweet about the way they are around each other, seeming to always bring out the best in each other - I think that is a very important part of any kind of relationship. I think I can put my finger on why I love watching these two ... it's because when they are talking together, they are really talking with each other and the world around them waits or fades away - not to say anybody should be insular in their relationship but I think you will know what I mean - the eye contact is not broken and they really hear what the other person is saying. It's beautiful to watch.

I really love the very honest conversation that Isobel had with her mum - I think lots of us wish we could have such an open, honest and loving conversation with our mums!

This is really a very very lovely Christmas story and I will watch it again and again. Alicia and Gabriel sizzle the screen in a very gentle, charming and romantic way.

Now I just need this DVD to be available on Amazon!!

Falling for Vermont (2017 TV Movie)
9/10
Love it when mature people fall in love
20 July 2020
I really love Hallmark movies, especially those that feature a single parent because then we have a more mature lead actor or actress and not a bridezilla or silly story lines about the leads having petty fights with each other to kick start their fledgling careers or one up the other.

And the 2 leads in this show really came across as a very lovely mature couple. It left me rooting all the way for them - other than the fact her boyfriend is really annoying "Go for Brad"? Yeah, no thanks.

Given that Angela and Jeff establish themselves as mature adults with successful careers and Jeff is a single dad, to then watch them getting all silly in the photo booth made me smile. It is so nice to see 'grown ups' remembering to be young again.

Julie Gonzalo (Angela) played the part of the amnesiac so well. She was lovely and held her own but with a hint of fragility. Benjamin Ayres (Jeff) also did a great job as a very compassionate doctor and a super great dad. I loved the part when she needed to leave and the kids were heartbroken; he just stooped down physically to their level and hugged them. That is so much more comforting than platitudes like "it's gonna be alright." Of course it is gonna be alright but it doesn't feel alright now so the best thing from a parent is a hug and he did it sooo well.

There is good chemistry between the leads and we can feel the yearning. Very nice. I was very taken at how Jeff was watching Angela give an interview 'far away' from him and the look on his face spoke volumes of how much he missed her. He turned the TV off and put the remote control on the table but he did that wordlessly but at a speed and in a way that told us of his heartache - wow that is some masterful acting.

At the end, I love the way the two of them caressed each other's faces with their eyes before kissing. The actual kiss though was a little off but it did not take away from the show. Some great Hallmark kisses were in 'Autumn in the Vineyard' and 'Love at First Bark' - totally and completely toe curling kisses!

Jeff's parents are lovely and so are the townfolk. Makes me want to move to a small town! Vermont in autumn is always so beautiful.

I would definitely watch this again even if I have other shows to watch!

Rome in Love (2019 TV Movie)
1/10
Awful
20 July 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Why why why is it that everytime Hallmark takes their movie overseas, we hope for a beautiful exotic romance but instead end up being tragically disappointed - 'Paris, Wine and Romance' (which was filmed overseas but not in France apparently), 'Sun, Sand and Romance' (Cancun), 'Christmas Perfection' (Ireland) - all cringe shows. Only one offsite movie 'Love, Romance and Chocolate' filmed in Belgium was amazing but I digress.

The two leads in this show have absolutely no chemistry. Philip has more chemistry with his cat. I just did some googling and realised why but don't want to go into that. But, when Amelia and Philip look at each other, I felt nothing. No emotion, no spark, no chemistry. They were deadly dull to watch. Great lead chemistry examples for me can be found in Christmas Homecoming and Moonlight in Vermont - those shows I will watch over and over again.

The lead in this movie, Rome in Love, was beautiful in some scenes and in other scenes, almost as if she was somebody else, looked very old and very tired. And that incredible white poofy dress they put her in on the stairs ... it looked like a cloud had thrown up over and around her - it was awful! But hey, at least she carried off her real life pregnancy better than the lead in 'Paris, Wine and Romance' - for her it was just too big (pun unintended) an ask of a woman at that stage of pregnancy.

I didn't quite get the subplot about Amelia wanting her character to be more than eye candy in the movie. So did she get what she wanted or didn't she really care since she pouted about it but then didn't seem too bothered about it after that - the issue should have been handled properly or not brought up at all.

And I would sue a hotel for letting anybody claiming to be my sister into my hotel room and apparently into my bed without checking with me first.

The character Amelia came across as really spoilt and entitled. She wants to be a movie star but wants to be anonymous and she wants to have her privacy respected - and that is her big crisis in the show? How shallow and how absurdly ridiculous is that? It is like a doctor who says she never wants to see blood. Hello?

And her throwing her temper at Philip is not warranted. No other reporter would have allowed her to read the article and she is lucky he is looking at her through rose coloured glasses and not the usual invasive and no holds barred reporting that stars are subject to. The principle is simple - if you can't take the heat, get out of the kitchen. Go be a school teacher where you get to protect your privacy - and even then maybe not!

She hadn't even read the article Philip wrote and she decided to throw her temper anyway. So awful she is. Her sister is right "If you are going to be mad at him, then at least know what you are mad with him about" - errrr which is nothing. It must be exhausting being her and even more exhausting being the people around her.

It's this kind of character flaws that make the viewer lose interest in the love story because they are not nice people so how can we root for them?

I found Peter Porte disconcerting to watch. He is actually so handsome in a Clark Kent way but he is so stiff and doesn't come across as a believable romantic lead.

I am so disappointed once again in my favourite Hallmark movies channel. I need to go pull out some of my Hallmark favourites to counteract this movie.

The Last Bridesmaid (2019 TV Movie)

Chipmunks have more chemistry
19 July 2020
This is just my own personal view appreciating that every viewer would take away something different whether positive or negative from the show and that is fine, good even, as it makes for an interesting read of the reviews.

Well I didn't enjoy the show - won't be watching it again. Wish Hallmark would make more shows about a deeper and more mature love, like second chance love or love after a spouse passes/divorce because then the characters are more mature and at a more stable place in their lives. You know that the next time they love, it would have depth because they have experienced pain before.

With these young people in this show who are getting married (Lucie and Craig), it is all about the perfect wedding, no expenses spared apparently, and nothing to do with a strong marriage.

And no more bridezillas pleeeeeease. "The wedding co-ordinator quit." Her reaction saying this, she might as well have announced that an entire continent was experiencing sudden starvation. And there was something wrong with the consistency of the timeline - it was 10 weeks to the wedding, things have been crazy for "the last 3 months" and then something magical happened in "the last 5 months" - think the writers need to be more careful with the timeframe that this show is supposed to have evolved within.

The storyline is shallow and the only time there was any real nice depth was with the videos about the service dogs. Wish they had focussed more on that.

I always struggle to get past the baby face paired with the receding hairline of Paul Campbell. It is like watching a baby who is balding. And his delivery of his lines was delivered with a distinct lack of life in this show. Half the time he wasn't interesting enough to focus my attention.

There was no chemistry between his character and Rachel Boston's character, Becca. Their eyes are pretty stone cold when they look at each other. They smile at each other but the smile does not reach their eyes. I didn't end up rooting for them to end up together. Kyle jumped to the fastest conclusion that Becca betrayed his trust before even finding out more and he is just being very childish and petty about his videos. Becca should have told her parents earlier that she had decided to concentrate on her jewellery making business.

It is a good thing that Rachel Boston has such a pretty smile because when she is not smiling, she is not pretty, lips too thin. And I think she needs to consider the way she walks. Her legs are never together, it is like there is a tennis ball between her knees. It was terribly obvious in the transparent floral dress she wore - with the light shining through the skirt, the way she walks was painful to watch.

"Greenhouse 5 minutes"? Without knowing who sent that note she smiled and went? Strange. "Love is effortless and easy"? Seriously?!

Maybe I missed it but did the Uncle ever say he would produce Kyle's video? Did Becca's parents say who would take over the company in Becca's place? It's like 5 writers took various parts of the movie without reference to each other and then slapped the 5 parts together.

I know I am being very Aunt Violet about this review but I just feel like I've wasted my last 1.5 or so hours and am disappointed in this Hallmark movie (and I LOVE Hallmark movies, being the only movies I watch these days).

Paris, Wine & Romance (2019 TV Movie)
2/10
Absolutely Meh
18 July 2020
This is just my personal view, which reviews are, so it is not meant to get anyone riled up.

I love Hallmark movies (they are just about the only movies I watch now) and I love Jen Lilley. Beautiful big eyes with always such a kind and sweet expression in them matched with a radiant smile. I try to watch whatever movie she is in (absolutely loved 'Harvest Moon' - Jen Lilley and Ryan Paevey at their best).

But ... 'Paris, Wine and Romance' ... I think the role of Isabella should have been recast. Jen was pregnant filming this movie and it was so obvious, it took practically everything away from the enjoyment of the movie.

Pregnancy is a beautiful thing and whilst one is not called upon to flaunt it (like a certain 'de'-royal rubbing her bump incessantly), but a baby bump should never have to be hidden and that is what Jen had to do throughout the movie. At zero success.

In a movie supposedly set in Paris where not just fashion but high fashion is de rigueur, Isabella was wearing the frumpiest clothes imaginable. She looked like a hobo! And what were the wardrobe people thinking, putting her in creams and florals and even a light coloured creamy peach evening gown for the gala dinner? And that shot of her behind in that light coloured gown that showed 'baby's got butt' was very mean of the director of photography. She should have been put in dark colours though even in her LBD, it was so obvious she was pregnant.

With all those very distressing distractions, it was really hard to otherwise enjoy the show.

I also didn't like how her character came off as an over eager puppy, jumping up and trying to please all the wine related people she met. It cheapened her character. She had an amazing wine and shouldn't have needed to come across the way she did. I laughed when Jacques told her she was like a bulldog puppy because to me, she was definitely an over eager puppy.

Jacques came across as a completely colourless character with basically no definitive character to speak of except that he likes modernisation. The friendship between the two lead characters (in real life) is pretty obvious. Unfortunately, that is the only version of any relationship that was obvious. There were no sparks of romance and a romantic relationship between them is not believable. No sparks or tingles, no yearning perceived. Dan Jeannotte has beautiful dreamy eyes but they did not look at Jen romantically.

Also, there were scenes in the show that were very strange. What is the logic of Isabella in France having to purchase a destemmer that is required in America? Shouldn't her uncle who was actually in America have been a better person to handle the purchase for their American winery? What was the point of throwing in that scenario? It was awkward and seemed misplaced.

The ending was so contrived just to get the two leads in the same continent and it was totally not believable. Opportunities sudden appeared from poof and generations of family loyalties suddenly didn't seem very important.

All in all, this show was a disappointment as were many of the Hallmark shows filmed around the world like 'Sun, Sand and Romance' (Cancun), 'Christmas Perfection' (Ireland). Pity. Though 'Love, Romance and Chocolate' filmed in Belgium was c'est magnifique!

Everyone is so unwatchable!
16 July 2020
Omg I can say with absolute honesty that I have never watched a show where everybody in the show is so unattractive and unwatchable.

Kate is annoying and not attractive in any way. Redford looks like a gorilla man. Kate's fiance is so ugly, I feel sorry for him. So is her father. Kate's colleagues are lascivious and so overweight, it's not healthy. And most of the show is on ice. I think the show should have been just left there and not brought to our screens. Ugh.

And p.s. If you are going to have a wedding and want to cover Jesus, why are you having the wedding in a Church?? There are no town halls you could use instead? That is just a very rude and disrespectful and unnecessary line in the show.

Love, of Course (2018 TV Movie)

Hallmark at it's best!
16 July 2020
Oh wow!! This is really a fantastic show! Hallmark at it's best.

What a beautiful backdrop of autumn colours and corn fields, freshly picked fruit.

And then ... Kelly Rutherford. She is so luminous. She lights up every scene she is in. And she portrays her on screen character (Amy) so amazingly. Amy has the perfect balance that many women aspire to. She is strong and courageous, yet with a tinge of fragility. She is a loving mum, involved in her daughter's life but knowing when to draw the line. She is professional but knows how to have fun. Wonderful.

It is a real testament to her mothering that her daughter is such a likeable and balanced teen who doesn't have nose rings, ink and attitude. Her daughter is a giving person who comes across as socially stable and who loves and appreciates her mum.

And ... Cameron Mathison. Seriously, what is there not to love. That is all man right there. His character (Noah), oof ... every woman's dream. A professor, so a braniac who works the land with his hands (faint) and he cooks and brings over chicken soup! Without any ulterior motive, he just does that. Checks on the fire, tucks the blanket around Amy. I want one of him please!!

I love how the relationship between Amy and Noah develops. They don't agree on everything but are civilised about it and they both learn to give and take, to be flexible and to hear each other out - that kind of respect is the basis of a relationship that has a real shot at lasting.

I love the way he was guiding her through the maze towards him. Gosh!! So romantic!! And so cute, they still have a young streak in their adulthood - Marco Polo, hilarious! Oh yeah Amy, you hold on to that muscular manly arm for the rest of us women who want to! Haha

Their chemistry is beautiful to watch especially when they were slow dancing.

So much I love about this show. I generally really dislike all the movies with the bridezillas and the young couples quarrelling about silly things, jealous outbursts, young people fighting for their careers with each other and just the general level of immaturity. But this show is wonderful as it is about two mature people. It gives me hope that beyond being single again (not in the spring of my youth), there is hope of finding love again.

I wish I could buy this DVD from Amazon! The only reason I got to watch this show is because someone uploaded it on YouTube. I'm sure it will get taken down soon but there are thousands of us who cannot access these movies any other way especially if Amazon is not selling the DVD.

Autumn Dreams (2015 TV Movie)

Meh ... watch if you have absolutely nothing else to do
15 July 2020
I feel like the scriptwriter couldn't make up her or his mind about the main characters. Is Ben a nice guy or is he a jerk to kiss Annie when they are engaged to other people. Settle your relationship with shallower-than-a-puddle fiancé before you go kissing other girls Ben!

Is Annie a hillbilly (the wide eyed "wow there are so many people" amazed look from her as they drove through New York was so stupid a comment) or is she a soon to be PhD Annie who is a braniac? Also what woman lets a complete stranger dictate (yes dictate) to her which wedding gown is the one and which is not? Why make Annie appear to be so mindless and characterless?

And rude. She is so rude. She is invited to attend the rehearsal and doesn't even turn her phone to silent. Then she breaks Joe's heart by breaking up with him and then commandingly tells him "Don't you dare go out of my life." Gosh!

Seriously, why make the female lead so awful a character?

Is Ben's fiancé a witch to railroad him on every decision about his apartment and about the wedding or is she a nice girl who helps a hillbilly choose her wedding gown? And how can she invite Annie to the rehearsal (which is for intimate family and friends) without even talking to Ben about it?

And what chauffeur hangs out at his employer's home outside work hours? Bizarre.

I'm not crazy about skinny kid looking Colin Egglesfield (practically non-existent shoulders) though he does come across as rich charming well. Also not so crazy about the younger version of Jill Wagner who looks pretty hostile despite the constant smile. Her eyes are pretty stone cold so the chemistry between them is not really believable.

Also unbelievable - if you have ever planned a wedding for 400 people, you will know that you have no breathing time the days leading up to the wedding and yet the bride has time to go away and work and the groom has day (from his high powered job at that) and night to hang out with his current-wife-soon-to-be-ex-wife.

The amount of time these two spend together in intimate 'dates', how do neither of them feel like they are cheating on their current-soon-to-be-spouses?

And one person wiping something off the other person's face is really done to DEATH. Enough please with that. I've seen it happen in over 40 Hallmark movies and it is now contrived and utterly unimaginative.

Too bad. The main storyline on paper could have made for an amazing movie. Didn't come onto the screen that way. No heartstrings tugged until the last 5 minutes of the show and then it was probably the song.

Wait. Why are they getting married again if they are already married?? Well at least she got to use the wedding gown chosen for her by his bride-to-be-turned-ex-bride.

Finally, please don't litter the earth with torn paper. So incredibly un-eco friendly.

Puppy Love (2012 TV Movie)

Show sent shivers down my spine
15 July 2020
As a starting point, we get the veteran of Hallmark, Candace Cameron Bure, who is, characteristically at times, overly high strung. Then we get Victor Webster who is awllllll man (and so much of it!) and who doesn't love that cutie pooch! Awwww Jake is adorable.

So we have a great playing field (pardon the pun) but then ... omg ... this show sent chills down my spine in a very UN-Hallmark way!

The way the two leads fought over the dog. If you have ever been acrimoniously divorced with a battle over child custody, you will most likely have complete sense of humour failure during this show.

The 'parents' openly yell at each other over the 'custody' (yes, of the dog). They pit the dog against each other by teaching the dog to act out whilst in the other person's custody and the tussle leads to heartbreaking scenes of goodbyes with the dog over and over again.

If these scenes were meant to be funny, then the scriptwriter needs to grow a heart.

Check Inn to Christmas (2019 TV Movie)

Check Inn to Warm Fuzzy Feelings!
14 July 2020
Warning: Spoilers
If you generally love Hallmark type movies, then you will generally love this movie. I did.

Don't expect the depth of War and Peace in the presented family feud so if you want something that heavy, then watch War and Peace (lol). But watch this show if you want a warm fuzzy Christmas feeling at any time of the year.

I think most Hallmark fans are not keen on the great big conflicts that exist enough in real life so there is a family feud but it doesn't get too ugly because let's face it, such negativity is not what we want from a Hallmark movie.

It does however, get a bit unbelievable at times and if you want to enjoy the show, just continue to suspend belief. For example, in a real family feud, the children of said feud would not be 'allowed' to get so cosy with each other under their parent's noses without at least one admonishment.

The body language and light banter between Rachel Boston and Wes Brown's characters is a delight to watch. They don't waste time on developing chemistry and pretty much have it off the bat (or train in their case).

I absolutely love some of Wes Brown's lines and the way he delivered it was pure genius. I especially laughed when Rachel Boston's character (Julia) asked him (Ryan) why his family wasn't participating in the bake off and he said with such perfect comedic timing whilst still maintaining the smouldering - "they're afraid of your grandmother".

Ryan comes off as a confident charming young man with a great sense of humour and he seems wasted on small town business.

Julia is sweet and not believable as a career climbing corporate lawyer (more belief being suspended). I liked though that she gave up her promotion because of where she wanted her career to go and not because of her love for Ryan - I don't like shows where either party gives up their career for the other - that is going to come bite them in the **s later in their relationship so it's good that she made her choice for her own goals.

Anyway, my conclusion is that I lived in a small town that had such great camaraderie and sense of Christmas!

Double Holiday (2019 TV Movie)

Charming but not a must see
13 July 2020
Warning: Spoilers
A nice love story for the holidays but not enough to send me rushing out to buy the DVD.

Kristoffer is amazing as he always is. He comes across as so believable as the lead romance actor - he is charming, funny and is such a good actor; he sends out all the right vibes that tug at the heartstrings.

Must confess I felt Carly looked at times too old for the role she was playing. She only finally looked really attractive in the last scene with her hair swept up. Took away a bit from the enjoyment of the show.

Love the way the movie celebrates both Christmas and Hanukkah. And it is nice to see how Rebecca's family is so close knit. Would have loved it if Chris' mum could have made an appearance.

Thank you Hallmark for yet another great show!

Waste of time watching this show
13 July 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Just my own personal opinion and based on the 100+ Hallmark movies I have watched (and sooo many I loved) - this one is definitely a pass.

There is more sizzle in that overburnt steak than between the two main characters. Dan just did not send over any 'in love' vibes towards Carly because he was too busy being absurdly 'in love' (also without vibes) with Kristi who is such an awful, self-centred, manipulative woman. There alone is my first problem with this story. He is a pretty brainless guy to be in love with a woman who is more shallow than a puddle. It took him discovering such a huge lie on her part to finally see her for who she is. Day in and day out with her and he had no clue?? Sorry Dan but you are really too clueless to come across as a guy we are rooting for in a love story.

Then my next issue is how Carly can possibly be in love with Dan when they have hardly spent any time together doing anything that could remotely be described as bonding time. All her feelings seemed to be based on an old 'many years ago' relationship - we all know people change ... they have done nothing to discover what the other is like as adults. There are no meaningful encounters that wasn't interrupted and if I am not mistaken, I don't think they even had dinner together before she is apparently in love with him. It's like we are supposed to believe in 'instant coffee' love - pour hot water and stir. Doesn't work.

And lastly, I am not sure if it is insulting to men or to women or both that a physical make over was even considered for Carly. In the end, she went back to her old clothes but the spectacles did disappear. We do these things all the time for work or love but the way it was handled in this story, it just made both Carly and Carly and Dan's sister's perception of Dan seem very shallow because she was doing it to impress Dan and not because she was doing it for herself. It was a cringe-fest watching her stumble around without her glasses and in heels she couldn't manage. Did not find that funny because honestly, a broken ankle is funny - said nobody, ever. And all for such vanity. And treating the dog with blurred vision? Nobody who loves animals would do that.

I've loved so many Hallmark shows but this one is wayyyyy below my love radar. It was a waste of time watching it.

My One & Only (2019 TV Movie)

Meh ... watch if you have time to kill
12 July 2020
Warning: Spoilers
This is my personal opinion ... I have never liked Sam Page. He always looks too young to be the romantic lead and should maybe be the son of the romantic lead but ... in this show, he seems to have grown up a bit, with the help of facial hair.

Actually I like Stephen Huszar and would have preferred he be the lead instead but that is a very personal view. Also, in the show, there was no chemistry between him and Pascale's character and that may have been intentional given he wasn't the lead.

Pascale is beautiful but I think the smiling was over the top. I felt my cheeks hurt watching her smile non stop through the entire show.

The show is absurd from the first premise to the last premise. The first premise being that people can fall eternally in love in 2 weeks (though I know that such reality shows really exist) and in the end that the 2 lead characters want to be together with him taking over the ranch and her needing to go back to her promotion halfway across the country.

Seems like writer wasn't fully awake when he or she wrote this storyline or just lost the plot.

For example, how does someone become a character on a reality show or any show without their permission? How is it a decent thing to do to be kissing another man on the filming of a reality show about her dating another man? I may have missed it but I did not hear Sam Page's character Alex apologising to Stephanie for making all kinds of assumptions about her near the end.

My recommendation is watch this only if you have nothing better to watch.
