I Am Legend (2007)
An okay film....
I Am Legend was an entertaining piece of work, but sadly wasn't enough to reach my full satisfaction. Throughout the film I couldn't help but feel as if the plot wasn't going anywhere. The storyline was similar to 28 Days Later and stole the fear and devastation of the "deadly virus". The problem with this film was that they casted Will Smith. Will is an amazing actor but this role belongs to an upcoming actor who has talent but not fame. While watching this film sometimes you can't take his role seriously because of the entertainment he has done previously. Another problem i had with the film was the infected zombies. They just weren't realistic. You couldn't take the infected seriously because of the CGI. The CGI ruined the whole concept of the infected. However a few scenes did have me concerned and frightened. I also did enjoy the scenes that showed how being isolated can really make you start recreating your life. This movie was an okay movie, but I doubt I will ever be in the mood to see it again. If I am ever in the mood for an apocalypse film, I might as well just watch 28 Days Later and use this as a back up.
Expect what is to be expected...
With the whole billboard advertisements gone wrong, most people expected this movie to be the greatest horror film of 2007. Those thousands of people ended hating the film because they expected so much when there was hardly anything to show in the first place. If you just lower your expectations you'll witness a entertaining roller-coaster ride of pure saw and hostel material. I personally loved the film, I thought the visual effects and lighting for the film were really interesting. Elisha Cuthbert always chooses fun and campy films and this is defiantly her at her "horror" best. Though she has an obvious and boring character in "Captivity" she still manages to keep you attracted to her and wanting her to escape. The best thing about Elisha is that she's had loads of experience being the helpless tied up hot chick but in this she really takes it to the limit and shows everyone that she (and women) can escape these horrifying ordeals that happens everyday.
Don't expect a wonderful script because it's not. The movie is just meant for you to have fun, and fun only. Though the twist is obvious, it plays out well because the twist isn't supposed to be a big deal. While watching the movie you can tell the screenwriters knew the audience would get the twist before it had even happened. So in that case, the twist to me isn't a twist. It's just to make things more complicated for Elisha Cuthbert's character.
Seriously, don't believe all the crap "Captivity" has gotten because the critics and audience members don't get the essence of the film. It's not meant to be taken that seriously, it's just for entertainment and not academy award winning material. If you have missed the film in theaters or just heard it was bad, wait for the unrated DVD and you'll get a true horror movie experience that you won't regret! So, all in all I am giving Captivity an 8 out of 10.
28 Weeks Later (2007)
Best Horror Movie of 2007 (and maybe ever!)
There hasn't been a horror movie like this in a very long time! Horror movies today only rely on gore to please the audience (which doesn't work anymore) but this film has a slightly different kind of gore. The gore is only used when it needs to be and sometimes has over the top scenes but it surprising makes the film more watchable!
The acting was incredible! Everything they reacted to, you felt like you would do the exact same thing! Similar to the original, the actors aren't famous Hollywood stars that are recognized by everyone. They have the realistic looks of any average person. Which adds a lot more depth to their characters, and you know you can relate to them. The kids in the film were surprisingly good and intelligent unlike Hollywood child stars today.
Throughout the film you are always engaged and want to watch more. When the movie ended I didn't want it to end, I kept wanting more and more non-stop action. The opening scene is a truly amazing classic horror film moment. Just from the beginning you can tell this movie will deliver what you were expecting and more!
The music is great! The movie score does play the emotions of fear, sorrow, and emptiness very well. I simply can not wait for this film to come out on DVD. I recommend this film to every horror, thriller, action movie fan out there!
Don't waste your time... honestly!
I really have to say this was a complete waste of my time. The only reason you can even enjoy this movie is if you are a huge dedicated fan of the books and movies, other than that the movie was really bad. It was extremely boring, I imagined there being loads of action like the ones before but there was no suspense or creativity at all! Honestly it was one of the most longest, boring, pieces of crap ever-made. This movie shows that special effects can't save a poorly written script! I do really think Harry Potter has lost his magic. And the the thing that really makes me mad about this one and the fourth one was it tries to make itself a teen movie! I am even a teenager and i didn't find it amusing or intentionally funny at parts! I just feel bad for the director and actors being forced to make more because of the newer book series. Overall if you are not in LOVE with harry potter there is no reason to see this movie...
