Shrinking (2023)
Looking forward to seeing more of this!
I actually really enjoyed Shrinking. It's about a grieving therapist (Jason Segal) who has enough and starts telling his patients exactly what he really thinks of them. What follows is a really funny series that will make you laugh out loud. The best past of the show are the interactions between Segal's character and Harrison Ford's character. This show has gotten nothing but great reviews for a reason. This show will no doubt be nominated for all kind of awards and deservingly so. It must be doing well because it's already gotten an early renewal for a second season. I can't wait to see more of this.
Moon Knight (2022)
Entertaining!
Moon Knight is so much better than it has any right of being and that's mostly because of the incredibly underrated Oscar Isaac. He's so good in just about everything he does and is absolutely terrific here as the lead. I want to start off by saying a big fan of Superhero shows/movies but wasn't sure what to expect from this. Of course I was going to give it a chance bc it's Marvel. I'm pleasantly surprised by how much I liked this. It might not be my favorite of the Marvel shows but it's still very good and absolutely worth watching. It has a little of everything: action, drama, mystery, suspense, etc. I hope there's more than one season of this show because it deserves it.
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. (2013)
Every season got better!
Agents of Shield was one of the best and most underrated superhero shows ever created. The first season wasn't any good so some people stopped watching which was a big mistake. I barely made it through the first season myself but if you can power through it you won't regret it. Like many people here have already said, each season gets better than the one before it. It starts off as a spin-off from The Avengers as it follows S. H. I. E. L. D. one year after that first movie and is originally part of the MCU. Then they made the incredible choice to break away and make the show their own, and that's when it gets good.! It follows a S. H. I. E. L. D. team led by Phil Coulson and the rest of his team (Daisy "Skye" Johnson, Melinda May, Mack, Leopold Fitz, Jemma Simmons, Grant Ward, Yo-Yo, Deke and more characters that come and go throughout the seasons). It has some of the best writing for a superhero show and some of the best characters. If you haven't seen this yet or stopped watching after that terrible first season then do yourself a favor and go watch this as soon as possible.
Bosch: Legacy (2022)
I'll take as much Bosch as I can get
Bosch: Legacy is just as good as the original Bosch. Much like the original, it's one of the best, most underrated crime dramas on tv. The writing and acting is what makes this show so special It's hard to find anyone who's ever said anything bad to say about it. Bosch: Legacy continues to follow Harry Bosch, who has now quit his job as a homicide detective and become a personal investigator, as he moved on to the next chapter of his life. His daughter, Maddy, is now a rookie on the police force. Bosch now works with his ex-nemesis, Honey Chandler. Titus Welliver is absolutely perfect as Harry Bosch. If you liked the original Bosch and you haven't seen this yet then what are you waiting for? Go watch this as soon as possible!
Halo (2022)
Didn't like it as much as I had hoped for
I never played the Halo games so I didn't know what to expect but the trailers looked pretty good so I gave it a chance. Also, after listening to all the people who actually played the game and all the hype that was surrounding the show I was expecting the next great Sci-fi series. It's not, I was hoping it would be better than it is. I should have known since the reviews are so mixed but people were hyping it up for months and again the trailers looked pretty good. I'm about halfway through right now and it's going to be a struggle to finish it. I know it's already been renewed for another season so hopefully it'll get better but I'm not expecting it to.
Stranger Things (2016)
Lives up to all the hype!
Stranger Things is absolutely as good as everyone says it is. When a show is as talked about about as much as this one has been it's hard to live up to expectations. Stranger Things has not only met those expectations but has surpassed them in every way. This is the show that our Netflix on the map as far as original shows go as this was not only one of their first but their biggest. As much as I love this show it's probably time for it for end and it is. This upcoming season is going to be the last. We have literally watched this cast grow up, they were children when this show first started and now they're all in their 20's. I can't wait for this last season and going to miss it when it's gone!
Walker (2021)
I enjoyed it
I actually enjoyed Walker more than I thought I would. I never saw the original so I had no expectations going in. It follows Cordell Walker (Jared Padalecki) who returns home after being undercover for two years. He left after his wife was murdered. He returns to try to put his life and family back together. He returns to his job as Texas Ranger only to find out that the job has changed too. It seems like most of the people who don't like it are comparing it to the original and don't like that it's different. Just try to enjoy it for what it is and that's a pretty darn good show. I'm a fan Padalecki from his time on Supernatural and he's good in this too. It's one of the best rated shows on CW so it'll probably be around for a while and I plan on sticking around for the ride.
Foundation (2021)
Not what I was expecting
Even though the reviews have been mostly mixed I was really looking forward to this ever since I first heard about it. Then I saw the trailer and my excitement grew even more, it made this look like the next big thing but I have to say after watching the first few episodes I've been disappointed. Even though I know better I'll probably still give it a few more episodes to see if it gets better. If you're a fan of science fiction shows like myself then you should probably give this a try to see for yourself but don't go into it having high expectations. I'm looking forward to seeing if this gets better but not expecting it to.
Carnival Row (2019)
Entertaining!
Carnival Row was definitely a lot better than I was expecting. It takes place in a world where different mythological creatures all exist and live together though most don't get along. They also coexist to live with humans after humans invaded their homelands to take over. It follows a human detective named Rycraft "Philo" Philostrate (Orlando Bloom) and a refuge faerie named Vignette Stonemoss (Cara Delevingne) as they rekindle a dangerous affair among a society that doesn't not tolerate humans and creatures getting together. Philo investigates a series of dangerous murders while Vignette has a secret that endangers then both. I'm looking forward to the second and final season coming out in February.
Animal Kingdom (2016)
Absolutely Awesome!
I absolutely loved Animal Kingdom as it has quickly become one of my all-time favorite shows! It's not only one of the best shows currently on tv but it's also just flat out one of the best shows ever created! I'm just so impressed with how each season continues to be just as good as the others! If you haven't seen this incredible show yet and are looking for a show that will keep you on the edge of your seat every episode then stop what you're doing right now, do yourself a favor and go watch it...I promise you that you won't be disappointed! If you don't believe me all you have to do is look at the ratings or read through the reviews to see how loved this show really is.
Wu-Tang: An American Saga (2019)
One of the best hip-hop groups ever!
Wu-Tang: An American Saga follows how this hall of fame rap group came together in 1990's New York as they were torn between their music and their lives of crime. It paints their world so convincingly that it sucks you in like you were there. It stars mostly unknown actors who do such a great job that they really make you believe they are the characters their portraying. Wu's legacy is one of the best hip-hop groups ever created and this show tells the amazing and powerful story of how they became the legends they are! It's powerful to see them overcome all they had to to become the success story they are. It really is inspirational, you don't even have to be a fan of theirs to like this show but if you are then it's just that much better.
The Peripheral (2022)
Solid Sci-fi Series!
I just finished the first season of The Peripheral and it was so much better than I was expecting. I never read the books, or even heard of them for that matter, so I had no idea what the story was about. Chloe Grace Moretz and Jack Reynor are both great in their lead roles. This is a sci-fi series that's both original and exciting. The storytelling will keep you interested and make you actually care about what happens to these characters. You do have to pay attention because it could get a little complicated but not bad. The visuals are also great. You can tell they put some money into this show. I'm really looking forward to seeing where this series goes.
From (2022)
Looking forward to seeing more!
From was every bit as good as all the hype surrounding it. It was definitely a lot better than anything I was expecting. Even though there is horror and some gore in it, this show is so much more than just some horror show. I know a lot of reviews have compared it to Lost and while it's nowhere near as good as that show I can see where they get the comparison. It's a very clever show that has a lot of unknown and mystery to it. Every answer we get just leads to more questions and I'm worried that there's going to be more questions than answers but so far it has been a fun show to watch. It's popular enough to have already been renewed for a second season so I'm looking forward to more.
For All Mankind (2019)
Blown away by how much I enjoyed this!
For All Mankind is a really good sci-fi mystery thriller that takes you down the road of "what if" during the space races. It takes place in a world where Russia beat is to the moon and the global space race never ended. While the show does has its flaw overall it is a very good show. The writing and acting are all terrific, especially Joel Kinnamon. The use of actual footage and real events just make the story that much better. Each episode gets better and better. I put off watching it for some reason and I'm now binging all 3 seasons and can't stop. If you've a sci-fi fan and have been putting it off like me...stop! Go watch this as soon as possible because I promise you won't be disappointed!
House of the Dragon (2022)
Not as good as GoT
Game of Thrones was one of my favorite shows of all-time so I couldn't wait for House of the Dragon. After just finishing it I can tell you it's fantastic! While it's not as good as Game of Thrones it's still very good in its own right. It's already another hit for HBO. I've never read the books to these shows so I had no expectations when it came to that but I wouldn't care if it varied from the source material even if I did. I don't get why so many people care if a movie/show is different from the source material. As long as it's entertaining...who cares? They have to adapt these books for the screen. The first few episodes may start a little slow for some as they build these characters and the world they live in but stick with it because it definitely pays off. This is definitely one of the best new shows of the year and I'm looking forward to seeing where this goes.
She-Hulk: Attorney at Law (2022)
The first Marvel comedy series
I'm a huge fan of Marvel so I always look forward to everything they do and so She-Hulk: Attorney at Law was no different. After just finishing it I can say I actually enjoyed it. It's different than most Marvel shows or movies as this is a comedy but that doesn't make it bad, just different. It's probably my least favorite, this or Ms. Marvel, but that's only because I love the other shows so much...not because this is bad. I don't understand some of these negative reviews. What did you expect and not get? Did you not watch the trailers or read the reviews? You knew it was a comedy going in. Tatiana Maslany does a great job as She-Hulk/Jennifer Walters. It wouldn't be the same with another actress. I also loved all the cameos from Hulk/Bruce Banner, Daredevil, Wong, Abomination, etc. Don't let the negative reviews deter you from watching this, if you're a Marvel fan then watch this.
The Bear (2022)
Lives up to all the hype!
The Bear absolutely lives up to all the hype that it's been getting. Normally this isn't a show that would interest me but after reading all the great reviews and seeing how it's on every "best show of the year" list I've seen so far I thought I'd give it go. This not only met my expectations but surpassed them in every way. This has been nominated for every award possible and deservingly so. I'm especially glad for Jeremy Allen White since I'm a big Shameless fan. He was fantastic in this and leads a great cast. I couldn't stop watching this, I binged the entire first season over the weekend and was disappointed when it was over. Glad to hear it was already renewed as I'm already looking forward to next season.
ZeroZeroZero (2019)
Better Than Expected!
ZeroZeroZero was so much better than I expected. It's so good that I'm mad at myself for putting it off for so long. I have no idea why Amazon didn't promote this more because it's definitely worth watching. It's about a drug shipment of cocaine being shipped from South America to Europe. It follows the drug cartels, the sellers, the makers, the brokers, everyone. It feels very authentic and real. It reminds me a lot of the movie of Sicario. It has a multinational cast that all do an incredible job. If you're a fan of drug and crime dramas then you'll like this. You'll be hooked from the first episode to the last!
Interview with the Vampire (2022)
I thought it was pretty entertaining
Interview with the Vampire was actually even better than I was expecting. It's based on Anne Rice's popular novel about a family of vampires through the years. This is made with mostly unknown actors who all do a great job in their roles. There was also a popular movie about this made in 1994 with Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt and Kirsten Dunst. Obviously most people will compare the two and even though I liked the movie a little more this more than holds up and stands in its own. I never read the books but I've read that this show is a lot closer to it than the movie was. You can tell they try to respect the source material as much as possible and even had Anne Rice help create the show and have her on as an executive producer before her death last year. After reading through the reviews I'm glad that most people seem to agree with me that this is a good show.
Our Flag Means Death (2022)
Pretty Funny
I was looking forward to Our Flag Means Death ever since I first heard about it and that Taika Waititi was involved. This series is about a wealthy aristocrat who leaves his privileged life and family to become a pirate. He's called the gentleman pirate for the way he treats his crew and how he doesn't want to use any violence. What follows is one hilarious moment after another. The writing and character development is what makes this show so good. You really come to care for each of these characters and what happens to them. This is one of the most original and unique shows I've ever seen. I'm already waiting for next season to come out.
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier (2021)
Entertaining
This is a must watch for any marvel fan and a great addition to the MCU! While it's not quite as good as Loki or WandaVision it's still a really good show! It's an action packed thriller from start to finish. This show will grab you and pull you into their world from the very first episode. You'll have so much fun watching this show that before you know it you'll have binged the entire season. Every episode is incredibly written. It had such high expectations and not only met those expectations but surpassed them. There's really nothing else I can say about this show that hasn't already been said.
Sense8 (2015)
Pretty Good
I'm blown away by how much I enjoyed Sense8! It's fantastic! You can tell it was an expensive show to make by the production. It was so expensive that they had to end it a season earlier than they wanted to but the fans were so loud about wanted an appropriate ending that they made a movie to close the story out. It's about a group of people from around the world that are all of a sudden linked mentally and have to come together to get away from people that are hunting them because they think they're too powerful and a threat to the world. If you're a fan of sci-fi then give this a try, you will not be disappointed! I do have to warm you that once you start watching it you won't want to stop so give yourself some time to binge it.
Echo 3 (2022)
Entertaining but it should've ended at episode 9
Echo 3 is a solid military/political thriller that is absolutely worth watching. It stars Luke Evans, Jessica Ann Collins and Michael Huisman. The story is about a women named Amber (Collins) who goes missing after being abducted around the Columbia-Venezuela border during a political war. Her brother (Evans) and husband (Huisman) are two special ops soldiers who take it upon themselves to go find her and bring her back home. In doing so they have to overcome one crisis after another. The series is beautiful shot and the production value is as good as anything you'll see on a tv show. This is a political war drama that will keep you entertained throughout the series.
Poker Face (2023)
Pretty Entertaining
Poker Face has been pretty entertaining so far. Natasha Lyonne plays Charlie Cale, a casino host with the talent of being a human lie detector. She can tell if you're lying about anything from playing cards to actual murder. She ends up going on the run and being an amateur detective solving murders across the nation. Each episode is its own story and has a great cast of guest stars each episode. It's being hailed as one of the best new shows of the year by just about every critic and the audience seems to really like it too. Give this a chance and you'll be hooked by the end of the first episode.
Obi-Wan Kenobi (2022)
Prob could've been better
Obi-Wan Kenobi may not the best thing from Star Wars that I've seen but it's still worth watching. Ewan McGregor is a great actor and one of the best parts of the prequel trilogy. I was really looking forward to this when I first read about it and the even more so after I saw the trailers. It did not disappoint! I don't consider myself a huge Star Wars fan but I normal fan who does enjoy most of them. I really liked The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett was worth watching. I don't understand most of these negative reviews, it's like most of the people writing them didn't want to enjoy them. If you saw him in the prequels and saw the trailers what were you expecting that you didn't get? Anyway, if you're a fan of Star Wars I definitely recommend you give this a try.
