Jeremiah (2002)
Great Pilot
I was expecting a lot from the creator of Babylon 5. But was unhappy with this effort. The pilot was good, but the concept isn't new. Check out The Tribe. Same concept with a mysterious virus killing off the adult population. Kids having to survive on their own in a Mad Max-ish world. I do like Luke Perry and Malcolm Jamal Warner. They have good screen presence. My advise is sack the writing staff and make it better.
The Dead Zone (2002)
Good solid viewing
I like this show and find it pretty addictive. I haven't read the book by SK. But after reading some of the other reviews from fans of the book, I don't think I will. It would ruin the show for me. Anthony Michael Hall is awesome as Johnny Smith. From the pilot episode when you see johnny travel into the past/future of the people he comes into contact with. I was like, Wow! this is awesome man. I haven't missed an episode yet. David Ogden Stiers still looks like Winchester from Mash. But he is perfectly cast as Dean Purdy. You automatically loathe him (Mainly because of his character in Mash), but that is how Johnny feels about him in the beginning. Nicole de Boer is a lot better as Sarah than her role on Deep Space 9 (Esri Dax). She is torn between her life as it is now being married to the town sherrif and what it could have been with Johnny. If only the coma hadn't lasted as long. The Sherrif, I believe is better than any man alive. Who else would let their wife associate with an ex that she is still passionate with. All I can say is watch an episode before signing off on this show.
Earth: Final Conflict (1997)
One of the better Roddenberry ideas
I don't believe this is the best science fiction on TV at the moment, but it is good nonetheless. I will switch over and watch re-runs of Stargate SG-1 before I will watch this show. In the begining of Earth: Final Conflict the premise for the show was a good one. It's about a benevolent alien race called the Taelons that arrive on earth. They allign themselves with the worlds nations and end a long running war whilst sharing their technology with earth ending most of our diseases. In return mankind, the skeptical beasts that we are, ask the question, why? An underground movement of resistance fighters soon form and thus the human uprising begins. Wow! what a plot line. Only Gene Roddenberry could come up with that one. Okay so it's "V" for the new Millennium. I actually liked this show when it first started but when they killed off William Boone, I lost interest. Boone was the character everyone could relate to. He was flawed and to some degree naive to the powers that be around him. Liam Kinkaid was too unbelieveable. He did everything perfectly and therefore I couldn't relate to him. Canada can definately be proud of this show it really erasses the memory of Lexx.
Wing Commander (1999)
Chris Roberts should stick with Games
Like everyone I was looking forward to seeing Mark Hammil back in Sci-Fi on the big screen, Oh well never mind. This film is very much in the same vein as Final Fantasy. The general audience is expected to know something about the game that the film was derived from. Unfortunately that doesn't work. Even if you are new to the game, the game will give you a lot of background. This is what the film lacked. Saffron Burrows I feel was miscast as Angel. Saffron is a fine actress in deed, but they needed someone who would be more believable opposite Freddie Prinze, jr. Maybe I am just too used to seeing Jennifer Love Hewitt at his side. Someone more around the lines of Mia Sara or Gabrielle Anwar, or even Denise Richards. They really needed an introduction for this movie. That is what sucked the most. Then probably the cheesy Kilrathi aliens, they looked as though they had been last used on Star Trek The Original Series. Sorry Chris I loved the game, but this sucked big mate.
Pulp Fiction (1994)
The Best film of the 90's by far!
Forget about Shawshank & Titanic. Pulp Fiction is the best movie ever made in the 1990's. It has it all from a great script, ensemble cast that is literally an A-list movie, thrills, drama, comedy and plot twists. Then put it all together with some avante garde editing and it don't get much better than that baby. It basically rates up there with Star Wars: Episode 4 as the best movies ever made.
