Fogedretten (2021)
Askehave shines
A powerful vehicle for leading star Marie Askehave with the scope for her to demonstrate impressive variety and precision in acting skills. The crime plot overall is rather uncomplicated, leaving space for a flow of ever changing clients passing through her office, Every case represents at least one questionable dimension of human existence, and this sentiment seems to have been inspired by German/Austrian tv crime tradition. Effective directing, editing and supporting acts.
Teksten var af Ludvig Brandstrup (1968)
Legacy, insight and a sip of acid
What sets this series apart from any other musical show is the dynamics of Ludvig Brandstrup's songs being selected, presented, commented and put into perspective by his own son. Being a theater critic and personality in his own right, Ole Brandstrup is extremely precise in his choice of words, his judgments are carried by great insight - and more than once he's killing with elegance and acid.
Min bedstefar er en stok (1967)
At eye level with a three-year-old
This charming movie confirms Astrid Henning-Jensen's position as the leading director of children of her day, as already established in many features and shorts. Three-year-old Jacob is an active, investigative boy - always looking for opportunities to experience the tactile feel of things, to learn from imitating his parents, generally to seek any thrilling of his senses within reach. It's all carried out in his playing, sometimes with rather drastic or dangerous consequences. So his progressive parents are worried, and they try to explain things to him in rational terms - a psychologist and a medical doctor is also called for. None of them seem to understand the underlying logic in Jacob's actions. Only Astrid Henning-Jensen does. And mediated by her empathy and understanding, so does the viewer.
Dublin Murders (2019)
Disappointing after a promising lift-off
Crew and cast are all very skillfull and the series come out strong in first episode. It is however soon deceived by an ever more unlikely and straight out unbelievable plot line. Many rare coincidences (like a police man working on a case involving himself as a victim) and almost surreal turns (like another police man dressing up like a murder victim to live with her room mates) make the series a difficult watch after 3-5 episodes.
Natten i ventesalen (1974)
Crime noir
Crime noir portrait of human suffering and culture clashes in a minor Danish railwaytown. Excellent casting. Beautiful cinematography by two of Danish films old masters.
Kom frit frem (1966)
Divas on fire
Energetic, cheerful and overall loyal adaptation of Poul Henningsens and Bernhard Christensens original cabaret score. Of special interest are the two divas of the day, the classy Ringheim and the raunchy Price. Both at the heighth of their youth seem to be in a rather competitive mode in this production and on fire.
