Vegas Vacation (1997)
Disappointing
Yes this film is without doubt the poorest Vacation film, I liked the comment by someone saying this is the "Never say never again" of the Vacation movies, because like Connery, Chase also made the mistake of returning to a once great series, and making a dud. One thing I will say is I think Chevy Chase is a great comedy actor, who has made some terrible choices in movies in the last decade. His last good movie was 1989's Christmas Vacation, which has more laughs in the first ten minutes than the entire duration of this film. Randy Quaid only provides a couple of smirks too, the script lets them all down. Maybe it attracted more tourists to Las Vegas ( was that the general idead? ). Chevy would be better off doing another Fletch film, than submitting us all to another tired Vacation flick.
Frequency (2000)
The Best Movie of 2000
This film had everything, it was so downright entertaining it makes you realise how you started liking films in the first place. I have recommended this film to all my friends, but I don't tell them anything about it. I just urge them to watch it, because I would hate to spoil the fantastic storyline for them. So I will do the same here, just watch it!
Deep Impact (1998)
Pass the sick bag
Ooh I love you Daddy, but theres a big rock going to hit the earth etc etc.
Do me a favour, what a load of rubbish, watch Armageddon if want to see a decent Asteroid movie. This was awful, the only good thing in it was Robert Duvall, but he deserves better than this rubbish. Even the special effects at the end couldn't save it. Yawn, do they really think we care about all these people on screen, just show us some action, and less of the heartrending "I love you" scenes. It was soooo pathetic. Morgan Freeman was on Auto Pilot as the President, and hopefully the rather lovely Tea Leoni ends up starring in a better movie than this. Although I see she's doing Jurassic Park III, gee I can't wait to see more Dinosaurs running around eating people, can you? I give this 3 out of 10, as I'm feeling generous!
Batman & Robin (1997)
Awful. Terrible, Do not watch!
I hate this film, it is so bad its unbelievable. Probably the worst big budget film ever. I don't blame Clooney, Uma or Arnie, Just the Director, Producer Writer etc. They made a film so bad it nearly makes you lose believe in Hollywood Movies. 1 out of 10.
The Living Daylights (1987)
Another great Bond film.
I don't think there is such a thing as a bad Bond film, just that some are slightly better than other ones. The Living Daylights is one of the best. Timothy Dalton was a great Bond, but sadly only ended up doing two 007 movies. This was the first and best, before Lincense to Kill.
This has great action, great storyline and a great Bond girl in Maryam D'abo, only the villains let it down, they are too boring, not as bad as Jonathon Pryce in Tomorrow Never Dies though. The film is more romantic than some of the others, with there only being one Bond girl in it, luckily shes a good one! Its too hard to rate which Bond is better than the other because they all bring something different to the role. But Dalton didn't let anyone down. 8 out of 10.
Splash (1984)
Wonderful Romantic Comedy
A classic romantic comedy that is actually very funny. Tom Hanks and Daryl Hannah are both superb in this, and John Candy is absolutely brilliant in a supporting role. The story is of course very far fetched but all the characters are so likeable you won't care. Daryl Hannah is so nice in this, you'll want to believe in mermaids! There are many very funny lines in this, most coming from the late great Candy as the Oafish brother. I just wish Candy got more roles of this calibre. Of course Tom Hanks is now a superstar in films like Forrest Gump, Saving Private Ryan and Castaway, but perhaps Daryl Hannah hasn't reached her potential , hopefully she'll have a bit of luck in her film choices in the future. Anyway I highly recommend this as a feel good classic, and if you have seen it but not watched it in years, look it out, its still brilliant.
Superman (1978)
A classic movie.
I consider this film to be an all time classic. Richard Donner made an absolutely fantastic film, he was making this and Superman II at the same time, but for reasons that are too long to go into here his vision of the second film never came too light, which is a travesty. Anyway back to Superman: The Movie, first of all the story is wonderfully told, the destruction of Krpton, the baby Superman being sent to Earth, his upbringing in Smallville, and him finding out his true self, and going to work in Metropolis as Clark Kent and falling in love with Louis Lane. Every actor in this film give superb performances, but special mention to Reeves as Superman/Clark Kent, Hackman as Luthor and Kidder as Lane, those three are fantastic in this. I just wish Superman II ended up the film it was meant to be and not changed by the powers that be, don't get me wrong it is still a good film but it could have been even better. Forget about III and IV of the Series though, they are pale shadows of this film. I would love to see a Special Edition of this film, like Lucas did with the Star Wars series, but I believe a DVD is on the way, I can't wait.
