A Dumb Bernie Madoff type Meets Dumber Stooges
2 September 2018
A fascinating yet morbid documentary type movie showing how a cult leader is able to manipulate a group of gullible young people to be his slaves and do whatever he wishes.

The cult leader is a ludicrous drama queen like figure who is probably insane. He is totally repulsive and devotedly self-centered; he has found a way to spent his life doing whatever pleasures suit himself to the detriment of those stupid enough to view him seriously. The followers-so called- are on the whole a bunch of ever so weak individuals needing to find meaning in their lives so that plays into the hands of the lunatic leading them.

I do not wish to be unsympathetic to the victims but I ask rhetorically who in their right mind would fall for such nonsense?

The maker of the film is also one of the followers and even if there may be some lack of independent reporting there is no doubt the "master" is a criminal and ought to be in prison....

Carnaby Street(1968) meets the 3 Stooges...
22 August 2018
A complete nonsense of a movie. Totally dated with a ludicrous plot.

This movie was made in 1968 and the hairstyles, dress, make up and mannerisms all mirror that era.

A group of soldiers who all are said to speak perfect German go on a mission into the heart of the Nazi stronghold. But everyone speaks English!

But there is a double agent in the Melee...so who is it.....do I care?!

No, because I needed to turn off this rubbish well before it was over; especially when every single German soldier is portrayed as a kind of 'we have ways of making you talk' style, the way those in Hollywood want us to believe...

Can fool all the people most of the time!

Just above the lowest rating due to a few decent wintery scenes:

High Noon for the Wild Bunch
24 July 2018
A motley group of outlaws terrorize a town. The townsfolk are mostly "losers"; but can a part time sheriff reverse the cowardly nature of the town?

This is a gritty, compelling western with fine performances from a cast containing some hollywood legends.

Pleased to say this movie is on a par with many of the top rated westerns and certainly worthy of a high vote:

In need of a heart transplant.....
21 July 2018
The only reason I give this above the lowest vote is I somehow I lasted to the end of this film. Poorly written and produced this picture cannot decide if it is a black comedy or a thriller. All the actors give half hearted, mostly unconvincing performances and do not take their work seriously.

The film has some nasty murder scenes which is not surprising as it is about a love obsessed teen who is also a physco. To make it worse the play tries to suggest we have sympathy or empathy for any of the characters. One and a half, rounded up = 2/10.

Deliverance....UK Style!
20 July 2018
This is a surprisingly good intense and taut drama/thriller.

A couple of long time friends take a trip to the highland forests for a shooting expedition when a terrible accident leads to even more tragedy.

A key feature of this movie is the location settings which are beautiful on the one hand yet deadly and scary on the other. Local people in a depressed area are portrayed as savages though eventually a scintilla of humanity is revealed.

All the performers are outstanding in their portrayals; the ultimate conclusion to the film I found compelling and just about realistic.

In my opinion any slowness in the pace of this picture is justified and I can gladly give this picture 7 and a half rounded up, hence:

Worst time travel movie ever!
23 June 2018
A while into this picture I shut it off. It claims to be a time travel picture about a student who can go back in time through the flooring in a hotel. However the film is totally ruined by: 1. a snails pace muddled storyline- 2. actors who are fake and unable to be convincing- 3. made worse by choosing the most unattractive and boring players imaginable- 4. sloppy and tedious direction and presentation.

I ask myself who on earth produces this trash?!

Yes, and I also hate small town mentality too!
5 May 2018
A fairly dull yet watchable film noir black comedy.

A young man video- taping his girl friend "accidentally" witnesses a murder which he happens to catch on camera.

Whoever made this movie not only hates small towns but despises everyone who lives in such places.

There are all sorts of wacky odd ball characters in this picture and despite it being ludicrous it has a certain low brow Fargo charm about it.

4 and a half rounded up=

"Plan 9 From Outer Space": Updated!
6 April 2018
A family are in desperate survival mode as alien creatures have taken over the earth and any loud noise causes the monsters to attack what is left of humanity. Sound stupid? Yes it certainly is, and the theme in this picture is mostly unoriginal and the baddies just up-dated clones from other sci-fi pics.. Despite this movie being science fiction it could have been so much better if the story line had some ingenuity, yet as it stands the whole crux of the play is totally ludicrous. A great pity as the acting is first class, the direction and design excellent and plenty of super music. Had there been even just a marginally credible premise, then I could of awarded maybe up to 8 and a half, but as it is, the best I can do is:

Tinker Tailor Sexy Spy!
1 March 2018
This movie is more a comedy picture with plenty of soft porn and eye candy provided by the lead actress.

A leading ballerina in what seems to be 1960's Soviet Union is compelled to be a spy by way of going to "Whore--school"; there then follows all sorts of intrigue and double dealing.

The film also manages to bring in more current issues such as gender equality, gay rights and lots of ways for women to fight back against men who take advantage of them.

Sufficiently entertaining yet totally ludicrous there are also plenty of fake Eastern European accents speaking English and clearly this flick is seeking a part two.

It gets a 6 and a half rounded down from me.

Kama Sutra Part III

Ignore the over critical reviews as there is much to praise in this picture.

This is the latest if not last instalment of a compelling story taken from a famous book whereby a super rich young man who enjoys sex with his partner plus toys and apparatus etc.

The couple are now in a perfect marriage but some nasty person wants to spoil their romance.

Nonetheless, the lovers have time for plenty of love-making.

The intimate aspects of the movie are in my view presented tastefully and erotically and may give some helpful ideas to audience members who might want to spice up a relationship.

I enjoyed this picture.

All the characters are interesting, even the supporting cast and there is a first rate catchy music score:

Gritty Intense Drama!
2 February 2018
Two sisters-with issues- get trapped in a swimming pool and are desperate to escape otherwise they will die.

The film is a tense, thoughtful drama showing that a brilliantly acted suspense movie is just as good and maybe better than many big budget pictures.

This movie is dramatic and intelligent examining through the play morality matters such as revenge, mortality and forgiveness ; it had me engrossed throughout, hence 7 and a half rounded up:

Downsizing (2017)

This film is all over the place......
1 February 2018
As others have said: the first 45 minutes of this movie is intriguing; a sc-fi story of downsizing humans to a few inches. However the writers of this picture somehow totally lost their way-or lost interest in the subject matter- as the rest of the film is all over the place with issues about poverty, human rights etc and a doomsday scenario for the entire planet. What a mess! There is insufficient humor or drama or even likeability to identity with any of the performers... 3 and a half, which I have generously rounded up, 4/10.

Zombie-Land!
25 January 2018
Apart from a half decent opening scene, this movie descends into childish farce with ludicrous action and a similar story line. These Maze Runner films seem to be aimed at brain damaged adolescents and the latest is a prime example. A group of mainly young persons are immune from a virus killing the world and the mainly old people which include mad scientists and criminals need to get the youngsters to find a cure for the virus. This picture is at least 1 hour too long and a lot of viewers will be screaming for it to end! 2/10.

Strangers on a Train
11 January 2018
This is a decent action-thriller movie.

A long time train commuter is surprised by a stranger on a train with an enticing offer; after a bad day at the office the commuter is dragged into an ever spiraling dangerous ride.

There is danger, suspense and intrigue.

Ok so parts of the story may be far fetched but all the players give first rate convincing performances and aided by a distinct feel of realism during the train journey, these factors convinces me the movie deserves a solid:

"I see dead people" meets where to find fantastic beasts etc
6 January 2018
For insidious read ludicrous. This really is a total nonsense of a movie which seems to be why some of the supporting players seem to be half hearted and barely able to contain showing contempt for this picture as it is so stupid. In brief: A special person with magic powers is able to see and communicate with the dead and all sorts of other spirits & monsters on the ' other side' and is asked to help rid a house of ghosts/demons which just happens to be the place where she grew up.... Seems like every horrific and supernatural movie cliché is employed in this picture as the story is completely ridiculous. However a few good points: 1. The lead actress-despite everything else- succeeds in being charismatic and alluring; 2. There are some scary moments; 3. The direction and camera work is generally good.

Hence despite the shortcoming's, I can give this 3 and a half rounded up:

One of the best musicals of the modern era
6 January 2018
Super songs, music, dancing and chorography! Inspired by the real life PT Barnum, Hugh Jackman plays the great showman who specializes in finding "freaks" to fill seats. Hugh Jackman must be the best screen if not stage performer currently alive though in this movie the likes of the cast members : Keala Settle (Bearded Lady), Sam Humphrey (Tom Thumb) and Zendaya (trapeze and sizzling) have such charisma, they more or less steal the show. Some critics hate this picture yet in the same way as they flocked to the real PT Barnum, the public will love it as I did!

Better watch out for this Anti-X!
31 December 2017
This film is presented in a Xmas setting and the way it as trailed gives a suggestion it is another "Home Alone". Indeed Christmas movies are often uplifting and inspirational like "Its a Wonderful Life" or "A Christmas Carol". Unfortunately the people who made this film clearly have an agenda which is anti-Xmas. The film tries to be a black comedy horror but fails miserably and is neither funny nor horrific; but is substantially sick and which likely reveals the hatefulness of those responsible for this junk. The hate is almost certainly caused by them despising people of a different culture who grew up to enjoy Xmas. The plot: A 12 year old boy tries to assault his baby-sitter and then things get totally out of hand as the child is revealed to be a psycho. The movie glorifies in attacks on woman and much else. What a disgusting movie! 1/10.

Oscar Winning Performances
9 December 2017
Possibly the best movie of 2017 due to the first rate acting especially from the supporting cast who give performances as good as if not better than the leads.

A child with facial deformities needs to cope with living in public particularly at school.

The prejudicial issue which his pictures highlights can be a metaphor to illustrate all kinds of social injustices. At least the child in this film has a loving, helpful and financially stable family; what about those kids in similar situations yet without such support?

Nonetheless a beautiful production deserving top marks due especially to the superb presentation and convincing players:

Fake Gold
9 December 2017
A group of navy seals/commandos decide to help retrieve a cargo of Nazi gold said to be hidden under water. The acting is unconvincing and fake. A few half decent action sequences plus some scenic views cannot save this dud of a picture. This movie lacks sufficient excitement, does not engage the viewer and has no charismatic characters:

A Jigsaw with missing pieces....
30 November 2017
Apparently this movie is a further instalment of a series and unless a viewer is familiar with what occurred before, the story comes across as garbled and confused. Film-makers who create picture by instalments ought to realize that many people will be clueless about what came before, so the new film ought to be able to stand alone. A maniac is killing off people one by one and detectives need to solve the "jig saw". There are some good moments in this flick yet it is more or less spoiled by a confused storyline except for those in the know. 5 and a half, generously rounded up: 6/10.

Who Dun It or Who Did'nt?!
23 November 2017
In the 1920's, a celebrity detective is traveling on the famous Orient Express train.

There is an intriguing group of fellow passengers.

A murder occurs and the detective is called upon to try to solve the case.

Super stylish production design and presentation.

Compelling characters with a story containing humor, drama and which ultimately displays a morally challenging but satisfying conclusion.

A first class movie: 8/10.

A Towering Inferno meets The Tree of Life
13 November 2017
"Based on the true story of the Granite Mountain Hotshots, a group of elite firefighters who risk everything to protect a town from a historic wildfire."

First rate intense performances with few exceptions from all the main players.

This is a gut-wrenching yet compelling drama.

As the concluding credits are about to start the roll call at the end reveals the real bravery of those being portrayed:

A decent action movie.

Two sisters, one with major personal issues are on holiday in Mexico and for some adventure and excitement are persuaded to be caged underwater to view some sharks:

But accidents sometimes happen!

No idea if the technical aspects of the picture are accurate, nevertheless convincing performance from all the players.

The ending is a bit of a shock and all-in-all this is a fairly compelling picture, worthy of 6 and a half rounded up, hence:

Based on a true story one of the victims of the Boston bomb loses both legs and needs massive courage if he can survive and cope with his condition.

This is an engrossing tear jerker of a movie.

The lead actor steals the show equally with the actress playing his girlfriend.

One of the great attributes of first rate film making is that real events can be made into an educational yet entertaining picture and also provide inspiration to all of us: this is such a film!

Magnificent Mother of Madness!
1 November 2017
Gloriously gory horror flick that may have the professional critics squirming with indignation, but this picture had me squirming with delight.

I don't care if its' a prequel or sequel or whatever this movie can stand on its own as a nasty- but for its' genre -nice piece of film making that screams out for a part 2.

A dysfunctional family take delight in torturing whoever crosses them and when one of their number is admitted to an insane institution, then the fun really begins.

Have to remember this is a black comedy and made for viewers to enjoy and not to be taken seriously.

And what is even more laughable is the cops are portrayed as even worse that the villains!

The star of the show is a matriarchal monster mother played by Lili Taylor who dominates every scene she is in and convinces me to give this film 7 and a half rounded up, hence: 8/10.
