Not bad
13 February 2004
All things considered this film is really not all that terrible. The cinematography was decent, especially since it is being filmed from a stage. Oedipus and Creon both deliver good performances although their costumes are rather contemporary. Those who have read the play will find this satisfies their need to see it acted out.

Mail Call (2002– )
WHO HAS THE BEST SHOW ON TV?
11 August 2003
THE MAN IN THE CAP R. LEE ERMEY, that's who!

MAIL CALL is the perfect show for people like me who are unhealthily obsessed with military history, but just can't listen to their Ben Stein-esque history teachers any longer. R. Lee Ermey is both informative and entertaining. He has the coolest job in the world, I am convinced.

WATCH THE SHOW TODAY, MAGGOT!

Reno 911! (2003– )
Disappointing
24 July 2003
I heard a commercial for RENO 911! on the radio and thought, *Well, this has twisted appeal, maybe I'll check it out.* All the funny lines were in the promo. After 15 minutes I switched off the TV. The jokes fall flat and the whole show just felt like a bad spoof of COPS. I will be surprised if this makes it past one season. 1/10.

Wasted potential

Warning: Spoilers
Spoilers herein.

THE TRUMAN SHOW could have been very, very good. In fact, it would have been excellent if the entire movie had not been spent on Truman's trying to escape. If he'd escaped halfway through the movie and spent the rest of the time adjusting to the real world, It would have been much more interesting. Unless created with a sequel in mind, this film is poorly done. Hats off to Jim Carrey for his first drama. 4/10

The Majestic (2001)
Not the best, not the worst
7 February 2003
This movie certainly isn't a classic, but if you've got a free afternoon, it's worth 2 1/2 hours of your time. Jim Carrey puts out a good effort in a role so outside his comfort zone, and I think he should be commended for his effort regardless of how well he played the part.

INSURRECTION was better (spoilers inside).
16 December 2002
Warning: Spoilers
This is a good, but not great, TREK movie. Of course, I don't believe a TREK movie can ever be truly bad (love is blind). However, this wasn't the best. It kind of dragged, and killing Data off depressed me as he's my favorite character. But I'm glad Riker and Troi finally had the wedding we've been waiting 15 years for. All in all, a good way to kill 2 hours. 5/10

Tolkien Would Be Proud
26 December 2001
Having read THE LORD OF THE RINGS numerous times, I was excited to hear that the books were finally coming to the big screen. Like other fans, I was experiencing a little anxiety over being disappointed in the film. As I sat down in the theatre and noticed that hardly anyone was there, I started to have some serious doubts about this movie. Thankfully, my concerns were unwarranted.

The first thing that struck me about the movie was that the character development was excellent, something which is often lacking in action movies. Frodo, played beautifully by the ageless Elijah Wood, will steal your heart the second he appears on screen. You'll love Sam for his total devotion to Frodo. And who could not adore Double Trouble, more commonly known as Merry and Pippin?

Beyond the hobbits, fans of the book will marvel at how well they cast the other characters. The second I saw Legolas I thought "Holy cow, that's exactly how I always pictured him!" And when I saw Strider, I just sat and wondered how they possibly found someone to fit the part so well.

And never once did I think the effects looked "computerized", or that the stature of the smaller hobbits and dwarves looked strange next to the full-sized men and elves. It all looked totally real, totally believable. I often found myself thinking, "I can't believe that's computer generated."

I have only one tiny, tiny gripe about this film: it moves too fast. This will matter more to fans of the book than to people who are just seeing the movie. However, since they had so much to cover in just three hours, I can excuse that.

Overall I believe that Tolkien would be proud to see his masterpiece delivered so beautifully on the big screen. Go see it for, if nothing else, the stunning visual effects and the hobbits. 10/10

Amazing
11 November 2001
Amazing is one of those great words. It can either mean amazing good, or amazing bad. This film is definitely the latter. No use of good dramatic devices, terrible writing, horrid acting, and the complete predictability of it all will keep you whining, moaning, and gnashing your teeth from start to finish. Avoid at all costs. 1\10

One Of The Worst Films I've Ever Seen
24 August 2001
This movie is so bad. I'm sorry, It's just BAD. Two and a half hours of Matrix-type action that made me have unpleasant flashbacks to "Charlie's Angels: The Movie". There was no plot. I've seen better martial arts out of five-year-old white belts in Karate playing in their front yards. Don't watch it. Leave this alone and watch Jackie Chan. 4\10

Rush Hour 2 (2001)
Jackie Chan Rocks The House...Again
12 August 2001
I'm a HUGE Jackie Chan fan. I have never seen one of his movies that I did not love. As I sat in the theatre, I readied myself for an action-packed Jackie Chan thrill ride. I was not disappointed. The fastest hands in the East and the biggest mouth in the West did it all and more. Now I can't wait for Rush Hour 3! BTW don't miss the outtakes at the end!

I Can't Find A Word Bad Enough To Describe This Film!
29 May 2001
I was at first very reluctant to see "Charlie's Angels." It was a smash hit in theatres and all my friends saw it, but still I resisted. Then one of my friends told me it was the best movie she'd ever seen. I figured what the heck? Can't be all that bad. I have never been so wrong before in my life.

The acting was extremely poor with the exception of Bill Murray. The writing was horrid. Nome of the three girls were "beautiful" as they were described at the beginning of the film. Cameron Diaz was the only passably attractive girl there. Lucy Liu should really hear about this new invention we call CLOTHING, and Drew Barrymore is just ugly no matter how much lipstick you put on her or how much you digitally airbrush her figure. The action was not believable and the directing was awful. Leave this crap alone and watch the TV series. 4\10

Good Action Thriller, Although A Little Confusing...(small spoilers inside)
14 May 2001
Warning: Spoilers
I liked this movie, I found it to be somewhat akin to "Mission To Mars", which was probably the whole point. This was good for thrills, chills, and a few good laughs, but it was a bit confusing in places, like how did they get air on Mars? And what were the little bug things that ate Burchenal? Where did the water come from to grow the algae? But it's worth recommending. 7\10

All Cleavage, All the Time
3 April 2001
This has got to be the most stupid show to ever hit Sci-Fi TV. It follows the misadventures of Michelle Lintel in a barely-there black outfit that just shows EVERYTHING. This show will make your homework seem fascinating in comparison. 3\10

The Outer Limits (1995–2002)
A Very Unique Show
20 March 2001
This has got to be one of the most different shows around today. Unlike most shows, it has no basic plot line, no regular characters, and no real setting. Instead, every episode is different from the last, with settings ranging from a space station to the Old West. And every episode presents a question which is usually great for family discussion. 9\10

Not Outstanding...But Not Crappy!
11 March 2001
"Mission to Mars" is certainly not the Motion Picture of the Century. But it was quite enjoyable. It presents a whole new view of how life on Earth began, although I don't happen to believe it started that way, it was still fascinating. I personally would love to see a sequel to this movie. 8\10

Too Much Romantic, Not Enough Comedy
10 March 2001
"You've Got Mail" had potential. It really did. It was a good story-you know, two people who hate each other fall in love over the Internet-that needed some good scripting to work. While the idea was good, the script and directing was average. Many of the scenes dragged on too long and the romance drowned out the comedy in many places. But it was enjoyable, although not a movie you will want to buy and watch over and over again. 5\10

Cheer Cheer For Old Notre Dame!
2 February 2001
You have gotta love this movie. It is truly one of the best movies ever made. And based (quite closely, I believe) on a true story. It's not the type of movie I usually go for, but I wound up loving it anyway. Very inspiring and touching. I highly recommend it!

Pass It Up
16 December 2000
If a friend calls you up and says "wanna come watch this great movie? It's called 'Wing Commander'", say "no, thanks". Freddie Prinze Jr. is undoubtedly in this movie only to attract giggling and squealing teenage girls. I know this because I am one myself. Spare yourself and others the agony and leave this movie on the shelf.

A Classic
28 November 2000
We all know what a classic is. It never gets boring, no matter how many times you read it, watch it, or listen to it. That is exactly what "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" is. It never grows old, and you never grow too old for it. Thumbs up to Dr. Seuss!
