Just One Time (1999)
excellent, even if somewhat predictable
The film shown at GLBT Film Festival generated a great deal of laughter and a few tears. It showed very clearly the struggle of dealing with homophobia from others and yourself. I loved these characters and the setup. The cast super sexy especially Anthony(Lane) and Michelle, would have been nice to see that hookup. Funniest gay bar scene ever!!! The only disappointment was the somewhat predictableness as the movie can to its close.
Boys Don't Cry (1999)
Remarkable depiction of real life drama
After finally getting the chance to see this film, I have to say it was worth the wait. Hillary Swank's performance was outstanding, she certainly deserves the golden globe she's already won and the oscar, she's sure to be nominated for. Brandon Teena was real, no questions. The director, Kimberly Pierce deserves much credit for telling the story subtlety, no black and white, he's wrong, she's right. I came away from this movie realizing the courage you have to possess to be different, the dangers from it are real and we must admire those brave enough among us to be.
The Matrix (1999)
Incredible Effects AND a Plot
Not being a big fan of Keanu, (though I loved him in My Own Private) I expected a rather weakly acted movie with some great effects. I was pleasantly surprised. The role on Neo seems to have been written for Keanu allowing him to be airheaded but with a reason. I thoroughly enjoyed the whole movie and watched it a second time the very next day, (something I've never done before) Its a definate must see.
