Runaway Bride (1999)

It's a 'chickflick'
19 August 1999
Julia Roberts plays in yet another romantic comedy movie, this one relying on the story of a down home type girl with a knack for leaving her own weddings. However predictable the plot gets, most women in the audience will find themselves starry eyed at the seemingly perfect ending. But what can I say? Julia Roberts has perfected the genre and she shines through out the film. Take your mother or grandmother to see it, she'll appreciate it.

Teen Culture Mock-umentary
19 August 1999
It's hard not to laugh when the exploits of the teenage life are mocked. As a former highschool student, I remember the cliques, the cheerleaders, smoking in the bathroom and most of all, the clothing. What makes DDG so funny is the fact that the characters hit so close to home, and you might even see a bit of yourself in them. Mount Rose might as well be your own hometown, and Miss Teen American Princess the crown they all coveted.

Didn't you go to school with her?

Every year, every class has their Dawn Wiener. She's the one that is so impossibly awkward and struggling just to make her way through teenage life. You can't help but feel sorry for her, but laugh at the same time. That cold chill of deja vu kicked in for me when I remembered back to middle school. A true piece of work that doesn't make growing up into some fantasy, Welcome to the Dollhouse is honest and harsh, but has the ability to make you think.

Watch It More Than Once
10 August 1999
This brilliant piece of film noir was first introduced to me through a film class in college. I could not understand at first why we were required to watch "The Usual Suspects" more than once, but after the plot was revealed to me after the first watching, I was eager to watch again, to pick up on the keywords from the characters, the clues and what actually was going on! The second time is even better. This truly is one film I will never bore of watching, as each time I come out with a new expierence from this mystery.

Indierock Must See
8 August 1999
This film portrays the life of a runaway girl; who steals her brothers van and all the instruments inside. The companions resort to calling themselves "Truckstop" and deciding to form a band. Members of Louisville Indie bands such as Rodan, Crain, Ruby Falls, The Metroschifter, The Rachels, Shipping News, and June of 44 make appearances. Anyone familiar with the city of Louisville will be amazed at the beautiful footage, and those familiar with the local music will get a suprise in seeing the locals are pretty good actors.
