Synopsis

  • This documentary follows brothers Geoff and Robbie Levin. Both boomers raised in the San Francisco Bay Area. They started their musical careers in the early 60s interacting and performing with musicians Jerry Garcia, David Nelson, Paul Kantner and Jorma Koukenon and Janis Joplin. In 1965 they formed the rock group PEOPLE. in San Jose. In 1968 they had the hit record "I Love You" on Capitol Records. The documentary follows their journey. At the same time they were having the hit they joined a cult which directed them to drop one of their lead singers Larry Norman (godfather of Christian rock). The group released two more albums but became a "one hit wonder" group. They broke up in 1972. The cult affiliation created an estrangement between the two brothers in 1984 as Robbie decided to leave the cult and Geoff wanted to stay. The film follows the parallel lives of the separated brothers and their erratic and shifting relationship. In 2017 after decades of estrangement the two brothers reunited with their band to record a new PEOPLE album. Both brothers have a history of involvement in major milestones in the last 50 years. The film is an allegory of the journey of all boomers as it covers the changing music, family values, religion, business and technology of the times. Most of all it is an intense journey into the world of the two brothers as they intersect and collide over the course of fifty years. Often volatile, frequently shocking, and ultimately heartwarming, this exploration of Geoff, Robbie, and the devastating effects of the hardcore cult that they once embraced, all climax in a compelling statement that "do overs" do exist, good will overcome evil, and the resiliency of the human spirit will always triumph.
