The gentleman from the charity gives Frank the gift of a pen, which Frank accepts. Later on, Frank even complained that it didn't even work. But here's the problem: early on in the second season, Curtis Swint tries to give Frank a gift of a bottle of Scotch but Frank refuses the gift, and states that the Police Comissioner is not permitted to accept gifts. Just to be sure, I asked a high-ranking NYPD old friend about this, and he confirmed that, in fact, the Commissioner is definitely not permitted to accept any gifts. So how did Frank accept what appeared to be a gold pen from this fellow? Even worse - the guy gives Frank the gift only AFTER Frank details the various crimes that he may be charged with. Even in the absence of the no-gift rule - on what planet would this gift NOT look like an attempted bribe after the potential charges have been detailed to the guy?

Were all the writers and story editors asleep here? And what about Tom Selleck himself? How could he have missed the fact that this gift contradicted something he specifically said in an earlier episode? See more »
