Character error

The detective tells the nurse there was no record for a Russell Williams when he checked. In fact his computer screen showed while there was no listing in his county, there were over 100 matches due to it being a common name. Since people often move and do not update their address, it would not be unusual for him to be listed somewhere else. A seasoned detective would be aware of this and would not make such a comment.

When walking with a cane, a physical therapist will instruct a client to use the cane in the opposite hand of the hurt limb. This gives the user more stability and decreases the chance of a fall or injury. It also takes weight off the limb. Jennifer uses her cane on the same side as her injury.

The note from Russell at the end differs from the soundtrack. The letter says "I love you, not for who you are ..." but the voiceover makes more sense with "... not only for who you are ...". The soundtrack also adds the "I'll love you forever and a day" line that appears elsewhere in the film.

Errors in geography

In the opening of the movie after Brenda Song's character gets hit by the car, a picture of mountains are shown on the screen and the text "Silverado Canyon, California 100 Miles North of San Francisco" is displayed. The stock photo is actually of the Flatirons in Boulder, Colorado, and the University of Colorado Boulder campus can clearly be seen.

At the opening it shows a picture and identifies it as Silverado Canyon 100 miles north of San Francisco. Silverado Canyon is actually a real place that is in Orange County California south of Los Angeles. The location shown is actually Boulder, Colorado with the Flatirons and Colorado University in the foreground.

Factual errors

When Jennifer is being defibrillated, they use the paddles though her clothes. That won't work. The paddles must be used on bare skin preferably with some kind of conductive gel under them to enhance contact.

Jennifer finds a phone in the vehicle and it is still on. Since it had been there for several days and it was in an area of no service (which depletes a battery faster), the battery would have discharged.

When Jennifer broke the window to get into the car at the beginning of the movie, there are all sorts of jagged edges. The window would broken into smaller pieces, and no glass would have remained in the frame.

After moving from the hospital to their house, Russel buys a new phone for Jeniffer in lieu of her lost phone. When she switches it on, it shows "No Service" and when inquired, Russel says, "Welcome to the mountains" indicating there is no cellular reception. Yet, one day ago Jeniffer hears him answering his cellular from the kitchen and sees his talking to someone (detective) from their garden.

Jennifer is seen running into the path of the vehicle and is hit on her left side, throwing her into the windshield. In the hospital her right leg is in a cast. In a crash of that nature, her left leg would be broken, not her right leg.

Plot holes

The Kahn character is shown arriving for his police interview but clearly does not convince Det. Page of his concerns, but he then goes to the hospital to try to speak to Jennifer. Rather than act on this lead, the already suspicious detective seems to dismiss him as a crank simply because he was driving a convertible.

The killer went to the trouble of disguising the name of the house, presumably to stop Jennifer working out what had happened, but left his white pick-up truck covered only with a tarpaulin, doing nothing to disguise its shape.

Spoilers

The goof items below may give away important plot points.

Character error

The detective shortly after arriving at the home discovers the pickup, yet he never calls for assistance. A seasoned detective would not only do that, but would also alert his office as to the location he was visiting in the event assistance was needed.

Near the end, Jennifer makes a number of female in jeopardy mistakes. These include failing to get an edged weapon from the kitchen, failing to tie up the psycho, failing to check his pockets for car keys, or as it turns out the detective's gun.

Plot holes

Jennifer while tied to the bed could simply have untied the single not at the bedpost. Instead she spends more time getting the lighter to burn through the rope.

An abdominal gunshot wound as shown near the end would not be instantly incapacitating as was shown.
