I enjoyed this cultural and gastronomic journey in Lyon: beautiful landscapes, interesting activities and nice encounters.
Lyon is famous for its gastronomy: at Saint-Laurent du Chamousset there is a market of 3-4 weeks old calves: Christian Ferrière explains that these calves are send to Italy and Spain.
Then we meet Régis Charachon,, who breeds pigs and is also butcher: the pork is transformed into sausage (called rosette).
In the departement of Isère Franck Rouusset ("Ferme du Blagneux") has dairy cos and produce the Saint-Marcellin cheese.
At the north-east of Lyon Michel Pont produce the famous "poulet de Bresse": the chicken spend the day in the meadows.
Now some words about vineyards and wines: at Condrieu the wine maker Jean-Claude Mouton has a terraced vineyard: the wines "Côte Rotie have been classified "Appelation d'origine contrôlée" (in an area of 220 hectares) and are very fine wines.
Then there is the vineyard of the "Côteaux du Lyonnais" (also "appelation d'origine contrôlée (an area of 380 hectares) which produces red and white wines.
About gastronomy one great nom: Paul Bocuse (1926-2018): in 2009 Paul Bocuse was still working in his restaurant of the Auberge du Pont.
Besides there is the bInstitute Paul Bocuse at Ecully near Lyon where students of 37 different countries are studying hotel and restaurant management and cooking.
Lyon is also famous for its murl paintings: the painter Tony Garnier began to paint walls in the.thirties nd his Urban Museum has now 25 huges frescoes: the muralists explains that the walls are the skin of town and German architect and urbanists are interested in this experience to give more life to their towns.
With Pierre Grison (Président de l'association de défense des bouchons lyonnais) we discover one of the 15 typical small restaurants of Lyon called "bouchons" where the people come at 9.00 am for a "machon", a plate of sausage ,cheese and bread with cup of wine: there is a great friendliness in the restaurant.
I enjoyd the encounters of Sophie with Gérard Betton, the Charolais breeder, with Pascal Nalin and Marius , the distillers, with Colette Sibilia , the delicatessen vendor, with Joseph Violla , the chef of "Daniel et Denise", with Sandrine Clauzier (the traboules), with Thomas Tettamanzi, the puppeteer, with Michel Djaoui the photographer, with Jean-Paul Baey (the basilica) and Jérôme Donna (the lightning of the buildings and parks in Lyon), very nice encounters with very kind men and women.
