The director stated, "I wanted to make a film that questions the story that each of us has built our lives on. What if that story isn't true? What if a young woman walked into a forgotten town with the blood of a false story pounding in her heart? My imagination ran until this young woman, this parallel existence of mine, lived in me like a little sister. This is her unusual journey through self-destruction and rage, as she teeters between girl and woman, to find maturity, to find she has something to offer the world. We're all living in a generational cycle and that lineage lives within us. Like blood memory. It's a brave few who break that cycle of abuse and take personal responsibility for how they affect this world. To me, these few are the unsung heroes of humanity."
TIPS FOR PARENTS: Murder, bloody death Profanity, crude language, and F-bombs You see a girl in a very thin t-shirt that shows her mid-drift Violence Alcohol
THEMES: Inheritance Abuse, neglect Poverty, money Inbreeding Corruption Family, intergenerational trauma Infidelity Lies Power
THINGS I LIKED: Bella Thorne's performance in this role is stellar. Not one to rest on her laurels, Thorne's talent doesn't stop at acting. She is a savvy businesswoman, entrepreneur, singer, writer, and aspiring director. Thorne recently launched a cannabis and CBD line called Forbidden Flowers and last year, she wrote a bestselling book titled, The Life of a Wannabe Mogul: Mental Disarray . Bella is also in the studio working on her new album which will be out later in 2020. The entire cast delivers and includes Mickey Rourke, Lanette Ware, Glen Gould, and Elizabeth Saunders. Effective musical score by Dillon Baldassero Some interesting twists. I liked the symbolism of a hatchet and holding a grudge. The director did a great job of painting the picture of a grim life and family. It's significant that the name of the girl isn't known. She doesn't even know who she is. The unknown girl also represents all of the neglected, abused kids who are stuck in a cycle of poverty and abuse.
THINGS I DIDN'T LIKE: Another good title for the movie could have been "Daddy's Girl." I just really wanted everyone in the movie to take a shower. Somewhat predictable ending.
FUNNY LINES: "I don't think you have all your screws." - (Bella Thorne) "You're the nicest person that probably came through here ever and you're waving a hatchet around wanting to kill people." - Barkeep (Glen Gould)
