Gabrielle, 13, is a talented artist who adores ballet. However, she's never danced a step in her life. When she sees a beautiful ballerina her age practicing at her neighborhood studio, Gabrielle resolves to learn ballet herself. But her learning curve is steep and her teacher, Madame Oksana, is a bully, determined to undermine and humiliate Gabrielle. Meanwhile, Camille, the star ballerina at the school, notices Gabrielle's striking drawing talent and wants to be her friend. But in the highly political world of ballet school, can a princess and an outcast be friends? And can Gabrielle push past Madame's bullying to realize her own artistic spark? A story about determination, overcoming hardships, true friendship and finding what moves you.
Nicola Rose's short film, Gabrielle, is a beautiful reminder that all of us are special in our own way and perfect in our own bodies. Gabrielle has been made with such care and love that it's no wonder it was nominated for three awards at the 2020 Blackbird Film Festival and WON the Audience Choice Award for Block A - Empowered, Motivated, Strong. A well deserved testament to Nicola's direction and vision!
