Storyline

The American imperialists are at the door and intruding on Japan. To assess and train his troops the lord of the land announces a marathon through the land crisscrossing shores, forests and the mountain. The shogunate in Edo was not approving and views word of the contest with contempt and suspicion. Spies and moles are dispatched. One mole realizes the misunderstanding and is determined to stop lives and alliances being lost. He runs.

Goofs

The opening scene has Commodore Perry present the Shogun's chief minister with a brace of Colt Model P (popularly called the Peacemaker) revolvers. The Model P and its accompanying .45 Colt cartridge weren't introduced until 1873, 18 years after the events depicted in the film.

Did someone say Classic? Samurai, Feudal Japan, A marathon fraught with deceit.

A masterpiece. Nothing is misplaced in this film. I saw a trailer and within the first 20 seconds I stopped watching from sheer excitement. I had an inkling it was going to be brilliant - the reason being; it reminded me of Battle Royal (2000) directed by Kinji Fukusaku. Being a hardcore martial arts fan, I highly recommend this film. Great plot and I reiterate, there is nothing misplaced - so you will find the action is in exactly the right place, the score is also exceptional.
