John Wick: Chapter 4 is an acclaimed film with some serious talent attached to it. In addition to John Wick franchise mastermind Chad Stahelski in the director's seat, the film features a screenplay co-written by Michael Finch and Shay Hatten. While Hatten had also worked on John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum, Finch was a newcomer to the series with John Wick: Chapter 4. Still, he helped lead the duo to success, as John Wick: Chapter 4 received positive reviews. The film also did well at the box office, making over $440 million.
Prior to John Wick: Chapter 4, Finch had written screenplays for other action films, though his career had been fairly slow moving. His past work has included writing for American Assassin, Blood Brother, Interrogation, and Countdown. Likely aided by the success of John Wick: Chapter 4, Finch's career has now taken off, as he is reported to be the screenwriter on over 10 upcoming projects.

If you’re like me, you spend a lot of August yelling “Summer is over!” to your nearest and dearest — and they don’t take kindly to that. Summer TV is in its twilight, while fall premieres loom on the horizon after the Emmy Awards on September 15.
But summer is not over, and there’s plenty of new titles to stream in the Disney bundle. Disney+ will premiere new Star Wars and “Winnie the Pooh” titles for kids, as well as the original series “Are You Sure?!” following BTS’s Jimin and Jung Kook. Hulu will become home to “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes,” “The Woman King,” “Smile,” and more movie titles, as well as the home for FX series — this month: “The New York Times Presents: Lie to Fly: Documentary Premiere.” Hulu originals “Solar Opposites” returns on August 12, and “Reasonable Doubt” for its second season starting August...

There are regular true crime podcasts, and then there's "Happy Face," an endlessly disturbing 12-part deep dive into the life of a serial killer -- as told by his own daughter. The podcast from iHeartMedia first debuted in 2018, telling the harrowing story of the years Melissa Moore spent being raised by the man who would eventually become known as The Happy Face Killer. Now, a new Paramount+ series based on the same story is in the works with an intriguing cast and crew and Moore on board as an executive producer.
"Happy Face" will be the first true crime series released via the Paramount-owned streamer since 2020's "Interrogation," and only the second to date. While competing streamers like Peacock have been in the true crime adaptation game from the start (see: "Dr. Death"), Paramount+ has mostly made the "Yellowstone" extended universe its bread and butter up until this point.

While studying at the Warsaw Academy of Music, Tymoteusz (Tymoteusz Bies) returns to his hometown for a visit. Surrounded by his friends and younger brother Jacek (Jacek Bies), his group makes a beeline for the new kebab shop opened up by two Arabic immigrants. As tensions rise throughout the summer, Tymoteusz assesses where he stands in the gap between a familiar past and an ever-changing present.
It’s possibly fair to say that those rocking up to a mid-month film festival without much idea of what’s on the schedule might not be too au fait with Polish cinema. Classics such as Ida and Interrogation are heralded as worthy watches, yet the visual imagery of Polish culture instead often comes from BBC News clips of homophobic policies and immigrants who are despised by the Brits.

It seems like a lifetime ago, but in the early weeks of 2020, the then-named CBS All Access launched a show called “Interrogation.” The ten-episode season starred Peter Sarsgaard as a detective investigating a brutal murder where the accused killer was the woman’s son (Kyle Gallner). With a decent cast and a dour, decades-spanning saga, the idea was that viewers could share in the detective work and watch the show in any order they wanted. Following the clues at their convenience, they could hop around different years, suspects, and investigators to figure out what really happened that night in the early ‘80s.
Fast-forward a few years and the beginning of 2023 brings “Kaleidoscope,” a show that offers the same promise of TV-watching freedom, this time revolving around a massive ten-figure vault heist. Each episode is color-coded, offering any audience member a time-fragmented look at the lead-up to and the aftermath of the planned robbery.

The new series “Kaleidoscope,” premiering on Jan. 1, is intended to be viewed in any order, with its first seven episodes possible to scramble and remix however the viewer chooses ahead of a final installment. In this way, it seems to suggest itself in form as much as premiere date as ideal for a New Year’s Day binge. A perhaps gently hungover viewer may be coddled by the knowledge that viewing order doesn’t matter, and, for that matter, that pertinent information will be repeated as needed to make points clear.
“Kaleidoscope” has an interesting enough story at its center — the whirring of its random-episode design overlays a story of a daring heist undertaken as a sort of revenge by a master criminal (Giancarlo Esposito) and his crack team. The issue with “Kaleidoscope,” though, is that its design is less an ingenious way of moving storytelling forward than the sort of thing a creator,...
