Based on the real-life case of Det. Superintendent Steve Fulcher, who, whilst investigating a young woman's disappearance, broke a number of police procedural rules in order to get the prime suspect to confess and reveal the location of the victim. The suspect also simultaneously confessed to the abduction and murder of another young woman several years before. As the suspect had not been formally cautioned and advised of his rights by Fulcher, the case was put in jeopardy. Fulcher's actions were heavily criticised in court and by his superiors and, following disciplinary action, he eventually resigned from the force but does not regret his behaviour given the circumstances.

Martin Freeman

Having seen quite a lot of Martin´s work to me this show highlighted some of his idiosyncrasies that seem to have become his trademark acting style regardless of the role. Could have been watching Sherlock, The Office or Love Actually. In the first episode he should have been leading the meeting and press conference but came over as not being at all interested.
