Classic sci-fi that could have fit into any universe
15 November 2018 | by jsaboSee all my reviews

While this started out a little slow, and with too much of the horror genre that Discovery seems to love embrace, by about 4 minutes in, all of that is over, and we're left with a story that could have been written by Asimov or Clarke back in their prime- a wounded warrior winds up being rescued by the AI on a starship that's been abandoned for a thousand years.

Other than the sets, there's nothing that makes this a Star Trek story- it's literally just a 18 minute exploration of what happens when a lonely AI and a human get thrown together in a situation where neither can leave.

And that's wonderful.

This might not be breaking any new ground, and it didn't deliver any didn't-see-that-coming plot twists, but for me, that's just fine.

If you're coming to this looking for Trek, you'll likely be disappointed.

But if you're willing to watch a classic sci-fi story, played out with a Trek budget, you're in for a treat.
