Summary
Reviewers say 'Evil' is lauded for its compelling narratives, standout performances by Mike Colter, Katja Herbers, and Aasif Mandvi, and its innovative fusion of horror, psychological thriller, and drama. The series is appreciated for delving into themes of faith, morality, and the human mind. However, it faces criticism for the children's behavior, unresolved plots, and uneven character arcs. Some note writing flaws, continuity errors, and tonal inconsistencies. Despite these issues, many viewers remain captivated and eagerly anticipate new episodes.

I like the show, it's fun and entertaining.
But
How many times do the writers think they need to remind us that the girls all talk over each other and scream. With few exceptions their lines descend into a cacophony of gibberish. Sure, I know real kids do that but why do we have to be subjected to it repeatedly in every episode?
On the other hand, I think this aspect of the story is a good way to promote birth control.

Well written, well executed with excellent actors. I don't usually go for scary stuff, but the show is that good, I am hooked. Two problems mar the scenery. First, the daughters. Maybe the writers have kids who act like this so they think it's normal. It is not. It's awful, distracting, annoying and overdone. Ever since the beginning of season 1, when they come on the sound is off. Hurray for mute and subtitles. 90% of reviews have the same complaint but apparently the writers don't care if we hate it.
Second problem is the neverending saga of the same bad guy. Michael Emerson is a really good actor, but come on. If there will be a season 4 please freshen it up with a new antagonist.
Finally, the train. It has been clearly stated that the train passes three times a day. But every time the scene moves to Kristen's house the we have to listen to the train. Kristen arrjves home. Train. Scene wih kids. Train. Sheryl in the yard. Train. Kristen trying to sleep. Train. So, as wih the kids, less is more.

So I was skeptical about this show at first but I'm glad I watched it, it was creepy and engrossing and I like the direction it took, In the vain of X-Files and "true crime" style shows, this mixes them together very well with good lead characters. Hopefully a show with so much potential will stick around for awhile.
After watching five episodes, Evil has turned out to be a surprisingly good show with very interesting principal characters and minor characters-- including the children.
While suspected supernatural occurrences in each episode are usually rationally explained, there are also strong hints of supernatural forces at work. And that makes this show both interesting and rather unnerving.
I really hope Evil gets a second season!

It's a great, quirky and dark show. But I have to turn the volume HELLA down every time the girls screech. Then turn it back up to hear what they're saying.
It's 2022, can we please equalise sound a bit? It's seriously so aggravating.

- TriviaIt was announced in Oct. 2021 that actor Peter Scolari, who played Father Thomas Marx, passed away after a two-year battle with cancer. Evil co-creator and showrunner Robert King wrote several tweets about the actor, calling him "one of the funniest--sneakily funny--actors we've worked with," he said. "He always took a nothing scene and found different ways to twist it, and throw in odd pauses that made it jump. I will try to collect my thoughts more. He was just wonderful."
- GoofsIt makes no sense for each and every train that goes across the bridge over the house to honk its horn. The horn is a warning sign. There is nobody on the bridge that could need a warning. The horn is mainly used at level crossings and there physically can't be any of those ahead or after the bridge for a good long stretch. Except this is explained in S4.E7 "How to Dress a Wound", when it's revealed that a demon is appearing as a woman on the train tracks above the Bouchard house.
