A multilayered true crime story with dull execution
"Murder to Mercy" is a documentary about Cyntoia Brown, sentenced to life in prison after murdering a man, paying to have sex with her. It's a sad story about broken people from the outskirts of society, rarely depicted in media. However, I can't help but think director David H. Birman could have done more to not have the viewers yawning at the slow, uninspired pacing. It's an important story, and at its best, "Murder to Mercy: The Cyntoia Brown Story" delivers the gut wrenchingly tragic feel this true story represents. It needs a lot more of it though.
