The lead character Ciro Di Marzio is nicknamed 'The Immortal' by his contemporaries due to his uncanny ability to cheat death repeatedly. This includes surviving an earthquake & building collapse when a baby (opening of this film), Russian roulette (season 1), umpteen death sentences from the local godfathers (season 1 & 2), being thrown overboard in Spain and expected to drown/die (season 1), being held at gun point by his friend for killing his friend's mother (season 2), being hunted for revenge for the killing of a godfather (start of season 3) and being shot for dead at close range & thrown overboard (season 3).
