Contrary to popular opinion, Gareth Malone did not start the first choir. The first choir was formed in Catterick Garrison (one of the reasons the film was largely made there, and why Gareth was happy not to appear in the film). Describing someone's voice as a "minor tone", as Kate does in the early scene where they're trying to sort altos from sopranos, is not something anyone has ever done in the entire history of vocal training. It makes absolutely no musical sense at all and it's revealing of how little actual research the filmmakers did. See more »
