Wynonna and Waverly take two very different and dangerous paths in an effort to save Purgatory.

Cleo seeks someone to become the Clanton heir and damn Wynonna. Meanwhile, Doc and Jeremy break out of BBD captivity with some help from Mercedes, and Waverly taken over by the Dark Angel seeks the book so she can return to the Garden. To save her, Nicole will have to make a sacrifice.—Gislef

Jeremy holds Doc back from the gut shot Mercedes, and Graham leaves the cell, closes the door behind him, and tells them that they only have to survive another day and then they'll be in the Ark. Freddy helps Jeremy hold Doc back as the vampire is drawn to the smell of blood, and as Jeremy holds him he wishes Waverly and Wynonna were there to help him.

In the forest, Wynonna looks at Waverly in her dark angel form. The fog is gone, and Dark Angel Waverly says that the fog is no longer necessary, as she's the failsafe. When Wynonna wonders about Jolene, Dark Angel says that Jolene helped her "evolve". Wynonna tells Dark Angel that she wants Waverly back, and Dark Angel can't walk away from her. Dark Angel says that the affairs of Man are no longer her concern, and Wynonna says that she won't watch Waverly become Dark Angel. Dark Angel places her hands on Wynonna's eyes and blinds her, says that it's Wynonna's turn not to watch, and walks away.

Rachel trains her gun on Cleo, who taunts her about how Wynonna will never truly consider Rachel part of her family. Cleo describes how Wynonna abandoned Doc and the others to save the last Clanton, and Billy is the Reaper with Wynonna. Jolene's hair nearby burst into flame, and Cleo says that means that Jolene is dead and now Billy will come for its most hated enemy: Wynonna. She suggests that they turn Billy back.

Jeremy tries to hold Doc back by making a cross with his fingers. He then uses his jacket as a compress on Mercedes' gut wound to try and stop the bleeding, and Doc offers to put a stop to her suffering. Freddy says that Doc doesn't want to eat an innocent person, but Doc doesn't care and attacks the human-form werewolf.

Rachel performs the ritual per Cleo's instructions using her own blood, and Cleo tells her that it is and it will bind Rachel and Billy together. She gathers the ritualistic sticks.

Wynonna feels her way through the forest and hears something moving. A Reaper lurks in the woods and watches her.

Cleo grabs Rachel's pistol that the girl has set down.

Wynonna calls out for help and hears the Reaper snarling. She looks up and realizes that it's there, and screams for help from Waverly and runs away. Wynonna bumps into Billy, back in human form, and he gives her Peacemaker that he picked up. She takes it and realizes from the fact he can hold it that he's not a Reaper anymore. Billy doesn't know how he's turned back to human, and Wynonna tells him that she's blind. He tells her that she'd better stay close and helps her up.

In the cell, Freddy tells Jeremy that he can't hold Doc off any longer and can't stop him from feeding on Mercedes. Doc tells Jeremy that Mercedes is already dead and Jeremy should let him eat her, and Jeremy holds Doc and tells him that he's stopping Doc for Doc's sake, not Mercedes'. Jeremy says that it's not the real Doc that wants to eat Mercedes, and says that Doc has changed and made amends. He then tells Doc that if he wants to feed, he should feed on him. He doesn't care because he's lost his love and his job, and if Doc feeds on an innocent, then he's lost his brother.

Doc hugs Jeremy and doesn't bite him, thanks Jeremy, and says that he will resist his vampiric urges. Checking the bars, Doc tells the others that one vampire isn't enough to break the bars. Mercedes suggests that Doc turn her into a vampire, and she's dying anyway. Jeremy agrees that it's a good idea and points out that if Doc doesn't turn Mercedes, she'll die. Doc makes sure he has Mercedes' consent, and she gives it and Doc feeds on her.

Nicole runs through the forest and tries to raise Wynonna on the radio. She hears Graham on the radio, telling his people to eliminate the townspeople. Nicole goes to stop them from killing her people.

In the cell, the newly vampirized Mercedes joins Doc and they break pry the bars apart, escape, take down the soldiers, and free the other prisoners. The power goes out and the alarms go off, and the group walks down the hall.

Billy leads Wynonna through the forest to where Wynonna left Rachel, and Wynonna slowly regains her sight. There's no sign of Rachel or Cleo, and they find signs of the ritual Rachel used. Billy realizes that Rachel made him human again, and he says that Cleo is unhinged and will do anything to get what she wants. He says that they have to go find out, but Wynonna would rather find Waverly. Billy warns that Rachel is in danger, and she needs Wynonna to save her. He says that Wynonna owes him and Rachel both a few, and she admits that she was an asshole and a mess.

Billy says that Rachel said Wynonna got better and was awesome. When Billy says that Waverly would want Wynonna to help Rachel, Wynonna gives in and says that they should go. Billy warns that if he steps foot on the Clanton ranch, he'll be reReaped, but can hopefully find someone to help him with the aid of the tooth talisman that he found as part of the ritual. Once he leaves, Wynonna draws Peacemaker and tells it that it's just the two of them, and they'll do it differently than they did before.

Dark Angel goes to the BBD HQ and watches the chaos as the BBD soldiers deal with the escaping monsters. She takes a cigarette from a dead soldier and smokes it.

Doc and the others reach a lockdown door, and gas pours in from nozzles. Graham opens the door and says that they won't get away with it, and Nicole steps forward and reveals she's training her pistol on Graham's head. Graham tells Nicole that she can't let the monsters out, but Nicole says that the "monsters" are her friends. Doc and the others go, and Nicole tells Graham that Purgatory is going to be inclusive from now on except to dickwads like Graham. She tells him that he messed with the wrong town and pistol-whips Graham unconscious.

The group goes outside and sees the other monsters fighting the soldiers. Jeremy grabs a sensor from a scientist's corpse and confirms that the fog is gone, and Doc waves and tells the others that he has to get ready, then goes back in to get any stragglers and his guns.

Wynonna goes to the Clanton ranch and finds the pit with the Reapers in it. Cleo has captured Rachel and tied her up in the barn, and Rachel says that her mother was a hero. Not caring, Cleo says that it's time for her family's empire to be buried. Wynonna comes in and aims Peacemaker at Cleo, and Cleo thanks Rachel for acting as good bait to bring Wynonna there.

Freeing Rachel, Wynonna continues training Peacemaker on Cleo. Cleo tells Wynonna that they begin, and Holt--now an animated corpse--staggers in. Smiling smugly, Cleo says that Holt isn't a Reaper, and that's what happens to Clantons when they die. Except for Margot, who never got the chance because Holt ate her before she could come back. Cleo says she's the Clanton heir, but Margot didn't tell her that all of her ancestors would follow Cleo around, speaking in her head demanding revenge.

Wynonna agrees that legacies a bitch, and Cleo says that Holt is back to make sure everything goes according to plan. She picks up a brand glowing with magic, to apply to one of the stones,, and Wynonna tells her that she can call it off and leaves. Cleo says that Wynonna knows better than anyone that they can't just leave the Triangle, and the Holt ancestors are all linked to her soul. Now Cleo plans to pass the link off to the Clantons' greatest enemy: Wynonna. Once Wynonna becomes the Clanton heir, she'll kill anyone who means anything to her. Wynonna will be trapped in her body, watching it kill her loved ones.

Cleo prepares to cast the spell, and Wynonna prepares to shoot her. Holt knocks Peacemaker out of Wynonna's hand, and Wynonna knocks him back, picks up Peacemaker, and give sit to Rachel. Wynonna tells the teenager to take it away and not give it back to Wynonna. Rachel runs out past Holt, who chases after her.

Doc goes to the armory and gets his revolver, load it with bullets from his jacket, and mutters, "No, I will not." He goes out and finds Dark Angel for him. When Doc calls her Waverly, Dark Angel says that's no longer her name, and she's a scion of Julian, Protector of the Fifth Realm. She says that she will leave once her book is returned by Doc, who has it. Dark Angel tells Doc to give it to her and she'll return home.

When Doc refuses to hand the book over and raises his fists to fight, Dark Angel is surprised that he's defying her. He says that he's doing it for Waverly, and tells Dark Angel to let Waverly go. A brand burns briefly on Doc's hand and he hears voice in his head. Dark Angel tells him that he's seen what's coming and knows what is next, and Doc says that Wynonna taught them that there's always another way. Doc refuses to hand the book over, and disappears.

Cleo collapse and tells Wynonna that she doesn't feel any different, and the spell didn't work. Wynonna tells her that she's not the Clanton heir, and Doc appears behind her, aims his revolver at Wynonna, and says that he's the heir.

Doc orders Wynonna out to the yard, shoves her to the middle of the stone circle, and says that every Clanton who ever was wants to see Wynonna die. Cleo comes out to her car, wishes Wynonna luck, and drives away. Wynonna can't run out of the circle because of a magical barrier, and she invites Doc back to the Homestead to have sex. Doc tells her that he'll only go there to bathe in Earp blood, and Wynonna tries to reach Doc's mind trapped inside of his body.

Lowering his revolver, Doc says that the Clantons have suffered enough because of the actions of the Earp and Doc. Now they'll see what happens when the fight is fair, and the Clantons will prevail. Wynonna tells Doc that she's not fighting him, just as Holt arrive holding Rachel in a choke hold, and tosses Peacemaker at Wynonna's feet.

Doc tells Wynonna to pick up Peacemaker, and she refuses. He says that if she doesn't, Rachel will die. Wynonna says that she needs some assurance, and she has nothing to win by fighting. Doc tells her that he'll spare Rachel if Wynonna picks up Peacemaker. Wynonna kneels and picks up Peacemaker, telling it that the whole situation is it's fault.

Wynonna demands Doc's word that Rachel won't be harmed, and he gives his word... if Wynonna fights. She picks up Peacemaker and stands up, and tells Doc that he's a fuck-up like her. Unlike Wynonna, Doc has tried to better and he's close, and she won't let him do it. Doc says that they're going to have a fight, and Wynonna tells him that a fair fight is the one thing Doc will lose for sure.

Nicole gets the escapees away from BBD HQ to one of the BBD trucks, and tells them to Shorty's. Jeremy tells Nicole that he'll drive to the truck to Shorty's, and Nicole needs to go to the stairs because she's the only Dark Angel won't hurt.

At Shorty's, Randy is drinking by himself. Billy comes in and says that he's back to human, and says that he needs Randy's help because his family might kill Rachel and Wynonna. He hopes he can use the talisman to make himself the Clanton heir, and Randy gets out his wolf's head mask and spell book to cast the incantation.

Wynonna and Doc turn back-to- back and walk away. She tells Rachel that she's got her, and Doc counts down from 5. He turns and prepares to shoot Wynonna on 1, but Wynonna refuses to around. Doc tells her to face him, but Wynonna figures that Doc won't shoot someone in the back. Doc holsters his revolver, and Wynonna figures that he won't shoot her no matter what the Clantons have done to him.

Doc draws his revolver and says that the Clanton have no code. Without turning, Wynonna draws and fires Peacemaker. The bullet ricochets off a gate post and takes Holt in the head, killing him. When Doc pulls the trigger, the bullet explodes in the chamber, apparently killing him.

Wynonna tells Rachel to run and goes to Doc. She checks the revolver and discovers that he loaded it with the wrong caliber bullets, and he knew it was coming. Dying, Doc tells Wynonna that he thinks he's always known, and the Clantons are coming.

At Shorty's, Randy performs the ritual and Billy hears the voices of his ancestors in his head as he becomes the Clanton heir. Billy glows with magical energy, and he tells his kin to stand down.

Doc tells Wynonna that the Clanton spirits have lost their grip on him temporarily, and Wynonna needs to kill him for good before they reassert their control. He holds his Peacemaker's barrel to his chest, and tells a crying Wynonna that it's the last thing he will ask of her. Wynonna pulls away and says that there's always another way. Dark Angel appears and says that maybe a miracle.

Wynonna tells Dark Angel that she can save Doc. Dark Angel says that Doc does have regret in his heart for his many sins, and defied death many times. Wynonna drops to her knees and says that she's given so much, and asks Dark Angel to let Waverly save the men they both love. Dark Angel considers and says that she has to take the book back to the Garden. Wynonna agrees to give Dark Angel the book if she saves Doc first.

Dark Angel steps forward and restores Doc to life, and make him human. Wynonna begs Dark Angel not to go and gives her the book, and Dark Angel tells Wynonna that Waverly did it for her, and she loved Wynonna very much. With that, Dark Angel walks away and Wynonna embraces Doc.

As Dark Angel goes, she sees Holt by the pit. He is dying, and says that he doesn't deserve it. Dark angel agree and turns Holt and the Reapers in the pit to birds, which fly off.

Dark Angel goes to the stairs, and prepares to return to the Garden. Nicole runs up, and discovers that the stairs are surrounded by a magical barrier. Dark Angel tells her to go home, and it's none of her concern and she must close the gate once and for all. Nicole insists that she goes where Waverly goes, and Waverly says that she must protect the Triangle.

Nicole asks Dark Angel to let her be the Guardian of the Triangle in every realm, for monsters and humans. Dark Angel wonders if Nicole would sacrifice her life to shield the Triangle, and Nicole says that she would do it for eternity as long as it keeps Waverly safe. She tells Dark Angel to look in the book, and see that Waverly's story is hers.

Dark Angel reluctantly looks in the book, then tells Nicole that she would be bound to the Triangle and can never leave. Nicole tells her that everything she loves is already there, and Dark Angel casts a spell to make Nicole the Guardian. Niccole swears to be the Guardian forever. The magical energy knocks Nicole down, and Waverly takes her form back. She throws the book through the door and it closes, and she goes to the unconscious Nicole and kisser her. Nicole wakes up and Waverly says that Nicole sacrificed herself for Waverly. Nicole smiles and jokingly says that she only committed to a permanent stacation with her girl.

Jeremy goes back to BBD HQ and tells Graham that he's not going to call for reinforcements like Graham wants. The phone rings, and Jeremy answers it. It's Graham's superiors, and Jeremy says that everything is under control but Graham didn't survive. Jeremy hangs up and Graham tells him that he's committing insubordination. Jeremy says that it's Purgatory and he's done letting BBD screw it up for everyone there. Freddy is with Jeremy, and on Jeremy's orders turns into a werewolf and kills Graham as Jeremy walks away.

Later, Jeremy goes to Shorty's and meets Doc, Waverly, and Nicole. Randy has taken Rachel and Billy to the city for burgers, now that they can leave Purgatory. Wynonna brings Doc another a blanket, and they start to kiss. Nicole interrupts and Waverly assures Wynonna that she's still the Triangle's champion. Jeremy confirms that BBD has left the Triangle, and everyone is ready for them if they come back.

Doc studies his reflection, which he can see now that he isn't a vampire. Waverly figures that she couldn't have made Doc human unless Doc wanted to, and Doc tells Wynonna that he wants a fresh start. Nicole asks Waverly if they're going to get married, and kisses Waverly as Wynonna says they should have themselves a wedding.
