The 5 episode TV series of Russia from Above enjoyed the highest audience ratings of all time for any documentary series on German television, when it aired on the national broadcaster ZDF over the 2018-2019 Christmas - New Year holiday period with approximately 30 million viewers! A 90 minutes special edit of the tv series was broadcast on the French-German joint channel ARTE on primetime in both German and French languages, topping the highest ratings of all programmes in 2018 for ARTE Germany.
A Russian language version of the 90 min special edition opened the Moscow International Documentary Film Festival "Doker" in 2019, to a sold-out crowd of 1,600 in Russia's biggest movie theatre "Oktobyr" in Moscow. Russia from Above was extended to a 120 minutes theatrical 4K format in original Cinemascope, with narration from John Malkovich (English version), Benjamin Völz (German), and Sergey Chonishvili (Russian).
