Issa Rae on Her On-Screen Romances: ‘There Are People Who Don’t Procreate With Just White People’
Issa Rae co-stars in two romantic movies with leading men of color this year: “The Photograph,” a drama with Lakeith Stanfield, and the upcoming rom-com “The Lovebirds” with Kumail Nanjiani. Rae said the former — written and directed by Stella Meghie — echoes the nostalgia of one of her favorite films centered on black love, “Love & Basketball.” The latter features a coupling she hasn’t seen since Denzel Washington romanced Sarita Choudhury in 1991’s “Mississippi Masala.”

“Every time there’s an interracial romance, it feels like it centers on whiteness, and it doesn’t have to,” Rae told Variety. She added, with her signature deadpan, “Just so you know, there are people who don’t procreate with just white people.”

The star and creator of the HBO comedy “Insecure” is certainly keeping busy. In addition to starring in movies, like “The Hate U Give” and “Little,” she executive produces shows like “A Black Lady Sketch Show,

Stuber: 5 Reasons It’s Worth Your Time (And 5 It Isn’t)
Kumail Nanjiani has a strange obsession with Uber. His masterpiece The Big Sick is based on his very sweet real-life tale of how he came to marry his wife, yet it shows him as an Uber driver in the film, which never happened. On top of that, his upcoming film The Lovebirds shows him driving a car, and he claimed he wanted to only do movies where he was an Uber driver.

At any rate, that obsession is in full force in Stuber, wherein Nanjiani plays Stu, an Uber driver who gets caught up with Victor, a brutal cop with a score to settle (Dave Bautista). Stuber is a violent and bizarre buddy comedy film with thrills, laughs, and kills galore. But it does have some lackluster elements that likely contributed to it being overlooked. In a world of cinema slowly being monopolized and homogenized by Disney,

Issa Rae and Kumail Nanjiani Are Murder-Solving Couple Goals in The Lovebirds Trailer

  • Popsugar
Is your relationship even real if you've never been thrown into a murder mystery together? The Lovebirds features comedy heavy hitters Issa Rae and Kumail Nanjiani as Leilani and Jibran, a couple on the brink of a breakup who get caught up solving a murder that they're unwilling accessories to. (Never let people into your car when they're chasing people!) The trailer highlights some of the extreme - and hilariously ridiculous - circumstances the two find themselves in while trying to clear their names and survive the night. Talk about wayward dinner plans!

There's an adorable unicorn hoodie, some very weird "Handmaid's Tale bullsh*t," and Anna Camp (sporting an interesting southern accent) threatening folks with bacon grease. Sounds like a hit to us! Watch the trailer above and get ready to laugh when The Lovebirds hits theaters on April 3.

BoJack Horseman, Season Six

In the Netflix animated comedy-drama’s final season, BoJack Horseman reckons with his past mistakes. While the clip keeps new plot points under ties, it reveals an emotional monologue from BoJack (voiced by Will Arnett). “I used to feel like my whole life was an acting job, doing an impression of the people I saw on television, which was just a projection of equally screwed up writers and actors. I felt like a Xerox of a Xerox of a person.” However, all may not be lost for the anthropomorphic horse.

Trailer for ‘The Lovebirds’ with Issa Rae & Kumail Nanjiani

Here’s a new trailer for an upcoming film from Paramount Pictures titled The Lovebirds, set for screens this coming April. The trailer suggests that this is a supremely dark comedy, one absolutely right up our street.

Paramount/YouTube

The film revolves around a couple (Issa Rae & Kumail Nanjiani) who experience a defining moment in their relationship when they are unintentionally embroiled in a murder mystery. As their journey to clear their names takes them from one extreme – and hilarious – circumstance to the next, they must figure out how they, and their relationship, can survive the night.

The Lovebirds is directed by Michael Showalter who previously worked with Nanjiani on the brilliant The Big Sick a couple of years back. I love that movie.

You can watch the trailer for The Lovebirds below. The film opens in cinemas from April.

The Lovebirds Trailer Has Kumail Nanjiani and Issa Rae on the Run

  • MovieWeb
Paramount Pictures has released the first trailer for The Lovebirds. This is the latest from director Michael Showalter. The movie stars Kumail Nanjiani (Silicon Valley) and Issa Rae (Insecure) as a married couple who find themselves in something of an interesting predicament, to say the very least of it. This also happens to reunite Showalter and Nanjianai, who previously collaborated on The Big Sick, which went on to become on Oscar-nominated hit. Based on this first trailer at least, it looks like the magic is still there with this creative combination.

The trailer wastes absolutely no time in getting to the point. We see glimpses of the relationship this couple has. They are quite happy. Yet, unfortunately, a simple night out for them is totally hijacked when someone jumps in their car and runs over a seemingly innocent pedestrian, then abandons them, making it look like they murdered him.

Kumail Nanjiani & Issa Rae in Comedy 'The Lovebirds' Official Trailer

"I'm gunna give you lovebirds a choice." Paramount has debuted the first official trailer for a comedy called The Lovebirds, starring Kumail Nanjiani & Issa Rae. This young couple is unintentionally pulled into a bizarre (and hilarious) murder mystery. Working to clear their names and solve the case, they need to figure out how they, and their relationship, can survive the night. It doesn't surprise me that Hollywood has already come up with a comedic spoof of Queen & Slim, as that's pretty much what this is, with some other twists. Like the weird mask scene at the end? In addition to Nanjiani & Rae, the cast includes Paul Sparks, Anna Camp, Kyle Bornheimer, and Moses Storm. This just looks painfully bad, comedy in the worst of ways trying to mock another good film. How are they still making comedies like this? Who laughs at this? Here's the first official trailer (+ poster

Kumail Nanjiani and Issa Rae Get Tangled With Dangerous People in ‘The Lovebirds’ Trailer (Video)
In their new action comedy “The Lovebirds,” Kumail Nanjiani and Issa Rae go on the run from the cops and a web of creepy, dangerous people.

The first trailer for the film shows Nanjiani and Rae as a couple deeply in love when a man commandeers their car in pursuit of a criminal. But instead of arresting the bad guy, the man drives over him with their car and flees the scene, leaving the pair of them looking like murderers. They spend the day working to clear their name all in the hopes of salvaging their relationship.

“Who do you work for, you little bitch? You little bean-bag, ball-less bitch,” Rae says to intimidate a suspect. “Yeah, do you think about your grandma in that furry beanbag, bitch,” Nanjiani says as he tries to keep up.

Paramount Pictures has released the first trailer for The Lovebirds. The film, directed by Michael Showalter (The Big Sick) stars Issa Rae and Kumail Nanjiani as a couple who get drawn into a criminal conspiracy, and the only way to clear their names is to solve the mystery themselves. If you judge The Lovebirds solely on the trailer, it looks terrific! It's delightful to see Nanjiani and Rae bouncing off each other, the jokes are solid, and this seems like a great date night movie. With a release in early April, this could easily be a hit! However, films …

‘The Lovebirds’ Trailer: Issa Rae and Kumail Nanjiani Unwittingly Enter a Wacky Murder Mystery

‘The Lovebirds’ Trailer: Issa Rae and Kumail Nanjiani Unwittingly Enter a Wacky Murder Mystery
The big screen murder mystery is back. Hot on the heels of Rian Johnson’s Agatha Christie-inspired (and now Oscar-nominated) “Knives Out” and Kenneth Branagh’s smash hit (and actual Agatha Christie adaptation) “Murder on the Orient Express” (soon to be followed by sequel “Death on the Nile”), the cineplex crowd seems to have fallen back in love with whodunits of all stripes. Next up: “The Lovebirds,” a wacky murder mystery that also happens to feature comedic all-stars Issa Rae and Kumail Nanjiani as a couple in emotional trouble that is suddenly forced to deal with, well, murder trouble.

Per the film’s official synopsis: “A couple (Issa Rae & Kumail Nanjiani) experiences a defining moment in their relationship when they are unintentionally embroiled in a murder mystery. As their journey to clear their names takes them from one extreme – and hilarious – circumstance to the next, they must figure out how they,

Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway Trailer #2 Comes Hopping Down The Bunny Trail

  • MovieWeb
Sony has released a new trailer for Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway. This serves as a follow-up to the surprise 2018 hit, with James Corden returning as the voice of Peter Rabbit and Domhnall Gleeson back as Mr. McGregor. This new trailer gives us a good look at what to expect from the sequel. In broad terms, it appears they've decided to go the Babe: Pig in the City route by taking a farm animal away from the comfort of his home and thrusting him into the big city with a bunch of new animal friends.

The latest Peter Rabbit 2 trailer opens up with an extended sequence that sees Peter and his rabbit pals feeling a bit hungry on the road, which leads to our main character taking a bite out of a less-than-fresh apple. If you'll excuse the pun, it's low hanging fruit as far as humor goes,

SXSW 2020 Unveils Features and Episodic Premieres, Including Judd Apatow’s ‘King of Staten Island’ and ‘Snowpiercer’
The 2020 edition of SXSW has announced its features and episodic premieres for the 27th edition of the film festival, running March 13 – 22 in Austin. The 102 features and episodics in this release will be shown across the nine days of SXSW. The 2020 program was selected from 2,316 feature-length film submissions, with a total of 8,362 films submitted this year.

As has become its tradition, the festival will open with a highly anticipated studio crowdpleaser. Judd Apatow’s “The King of Staten Island,” his first feature directorial outing since 2015’s “Trainwreck,” stars Pete Davidson in a lightly fictionalized version of the “SNL” star’s own life story. The film is set for a June release from Universal Pictures.

Apatow has been a regular at SXSW, where “Knocked Up” and “Trainwreck” both launched to strong reactions, but this is his first time opening the festival. “It’s a great film,” SXSW Director of Film Janet Pierson
