In January 31, 2018. after 22 years, the legendary Odeon videotheque in Corvin Cinema was closed for good. With that, the last arthouse videotheque in the Eight district of Budapest disappeared. This gave the impetus to a number of ex-workers and a number of film lovers to commemorate not just the Odeon theque(s), but the golden era of VHS.Written by
An admirable documentary about those good old times when hell-bent moviegoers became VHS lovers. This funny and melancholic piece depicts the Hungarian version of Blockbuster video store (in Hungarian: Odeon Videotéka, a video rental store) spanning two decades of its existence. Not only were these video stores so popular in Budapest, Hungary, but they also formed a common ground both for intellectuals and average Joes. Odeon took a village to raise the spirit of community.
