There are some aesthetic problems, but this is a very important production
The film is very informative and politically important. Unfortunately, a boring edition and cheesy text and narration made it have a much worse outcome than it deserved. It is efficient, anyway, as a report on the greedy destruction of Brazilian savanna Cerrado, which is close to extinction, due mainly to mining and transgenic soybean plantation, which both poison nature, destroy soil, and expend excessive water, besides damaging economic activities and surviving conditions of those who are not the few ones profiting with that predatory economic activities. It is shown that Goiás state leading politicians themselves are people with business interest in that destructive exploitation (for instance, they mention state governor Marconi Perillo and Caiado family, from which Ronaldo Caiado who would be his successor the year following the documentary's release). It is an important alternative narrative deviating from general big media propaganda in favor of large landownders which were supposedly feeding people and sustaining national economy. As one of the interviewees mentioned, even those large landowners do not trust in their statement that they produce most of the food, as if it were true, they would feed themselves and their children with that poisoned transgenic soya. Indeed, they destroy nature (and food diversity) and damage other economic fields, such as nature tourism and traditional organic farming. Many small producers are interviewed, including denizens of the largest quilombo (maroon traditional settlement) in Brazil, named Kalunga. Many landowners are also interviewed, justifying their lack of care with preservation in their business activities. Despite cheesy, the text brings important information on the lack of sustainability of that economic activity not only for nature but also for its own continuity in the long run. The attempts and possibilities for legal land preservation are also discussed.
