Moving and important story
27 January 2019 | by ikluft-48472See all my reviews

This movie lingers on in my mind. Their faces clear before my eyes. Ahmad, Maryam and Mamma, the three main characters beautifully portrayed by the actors. They are them, and I get to know them some. Ahmad, Maryam and Mamma. Their pain, frustration, fears, longing and most of all their love. The story is unique yet so familiar. The real life stories I have been told are some more horrendous and some more fortunate but they are similar in the hardship of separation from the ones you love. The ones who define who you are in the world. The ones that help hold yourself together when facing challenges and pain. The ones you rather have by your side to feel their warmth surround you than far away where you cannot support or help them as much. Loosing them is unthinkable and the hope of reuniting with them is what keeps you sane. Stuck in a new and sometimes very harsh place with countless demands put on you to fit in, to be the perfect stranger. And the agonising waiting. Your life on hold. For how long? No one knows. The constant worry and fear that the ones you left behind will be no longer. The guilt that tear your soul apart. The daily struggle to keep hope alive, to not give up or give in. Even I who have not (yet) fled myself can get a glimpse of what it is like through this moving and heartfelt story. I get to see through their eyes. This is in part because of how the director skillfully have chosen to capture the story by seeing it all through Ahmads mobile phone. This is brilliantly done! Saleh Jamal Eddin have put his heart and soul into making this story appear before our eyes and touch our hearts. Having himself come as a refugee to Sweden in September 2015 he knows first hand of this separation and pain. Highly remarkable of him to achieve this. I am in awe. Thank you, Saleh and every one else involved in creating this moving and important story!
