Lethally beautiful and incredibly efficient in her dangerous line of work, Ava, a taciturn lone wolf and cold-blooded assassin, is starting to develop a conscience. Having beaten her alcohol and substance dependence with the help of Duke, her grizzled mentor of death and father figure, more and more, unstable Ava lets guilt get in the way of closing her "deals", attracting unwanted attention by breaking protocol. As a result, after a botched attempt to liquidate a high-profile target, Ava reunites with her estranged family after eight long years of absence, unaware that she has just signed her death warrant. Now, as Ava tries to settle old scores and reconnect with her loved ones, every killer in the business is after her. Can Ava rely on Duke to have her back? Written by Nick Riganas

Did You Know?

During shooting, Ava's name was Eve. Presumably due to the similarity to Killing Eve (2018), the studio decided to change the main character's name after the film wrapped. This then affected the title. Since all scenes were filmed prior to this decision, this presumably required cast to do additional audio or shooting. See more »

User Reviews

An entertaining & fun spy thriller.
29 January 2021 | by SamJamieSee all my reviews

An assassin becomes marked for death by her black ops organization after questioning orders and breaking protocol.

"Ava" brings the action and espionage elements of a classic spy thriller blended with family-based drama. The mixture of the two isn't always seamless but it doesn't make the film any less entertaining. Chastain is great as the lead with her opportunity to participate in the genre, bringing the charisma and star power that saves the day for Ava. Otherwise, it's an unimaginative plot with less thrill and many clichés. Ava's atmosphere is due entirely to its compelling action sequences and strong supporting performances... Farrell did a great job and there's a wonderfully acted scene between Geena Davis and Chastain towards the end.
