Trivia

When Nathan Fillion's character is asked if becoming a cop was his "Plan B" he says "More like Plan D...astronaut, law school, construction, then cop." The 'astronaut' line is a nod to his first breakthrough role as an actor- that of Captain Mal Reynolds of the spaceship "Firefly". See more »

Quotes

John Nolan: You gonna tell me how it went with Sergeant Grey?
Talia Bishop: He put me on undocumented oral counseling.
John Nolan: For leaving a door unlocked?
Talia Bishop: I deserve it. I lost focus, but at least it's not on my record. Look, I appreciate you trying to cover for me.
John Nolan: No problem.
Talia Bishop: But it doesn't mean you're right about how you see people, though.
John Nolan: You think I did that to try to prove a point?
[chuckles]
John Nolan: Trust me, I'm no Gandhi. I just don't think someone's life should be ruined because of one bad day. You're my partner... my Training ...

Not Thier Strongest Offering
7 November 2018 | by GunnersMateSee all my reviews

The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly was entertaining enough, but not the strongest offering from The Rookie. The strength being that the characters are largely solid and engrossing. The interactions between Nolan and Bishop continue to be fabulous; a wonderful pair of very real adults in very different stages of their careers with who provide us with interesting, complex, and often very funny conversations. Surprisingly enough, the Training Officer to Rookie relationship between Bradford and Chen was greatly improved this week as we learn more about Bradford's personal motivations and watch Chen start to stand up and stand strong as a uniformed officer. The weakest part of the episode was the scattershot police work selection that made up the framework for the installment. With one notable exception, it was simply not engaging or all that interesting - and it was more than a challenge to the need for willing suspension of disbelief (too much major engagement for the rookie crew). The episode could have been better, but it was very much worth watching.
