Storyline

When a librarian is gruesomely murdered at the Bodleian, Endeavour and Thursday have little to go on besides a set of muddy boot prints. With the two main suspects having their own motives for killing the librarian, Endeavour digs deeper into their backgrounds, tracking a trail that appears to connect to seemingly innocent college bequest. Bribery and corruption at the highest level have a connection between the murders and a local tragedy unveiling the truth about "DC George Fancy's" murder.

Trivia

(2019) It has been announced that Season Seven of "Endeavour", due to be screened in early 2020, will have three episodes instead of the usual four, as will Season Eight in 2021, which is already commissioned. Given that Season Five untypically contained six episodes, this means that the end of Season Eight will bring the total of episodes, including the pilot, up to 33 - the same total of episodes in both the "Inspector Morse" and "Lewis" series which preceded "Endeavour". Goofs

Both Hebrew words are slightly misspelled. The Hebrew word for "death" has only one "waw" (or "vav"), but in this episode is written with two. Also, the initial vowel-pointing for "truth" is incorrect. It should be a hatef seghol, not a seghol. See more »

Incredibly satisfying
4 March 2019 | by kiwidoc71See all my reviews

While I'm aware there's to be another season of Endeavour next year, had there not been I would still feel the series had come to a satisfying conclusion. The episode was well plotted, beautifully paced, and tied up loose ends without feeling as though it had been forced. It also set up our favourite four 'coppers' beautifully to jigsaw in to the original Inspector Morse series, if this was the last we were to see of them (luckily for us, it is not!) Great, understated, powerful acting; realistic characterisations - all in all, a brilliant example of what British series' do so well. My only objection is to Shaun Evans' 70s porn star moustache - lets hope that's gone next year :D
