A rather deceptively relaxing documentary from the early '10s about a rather risky attempt to re-introduce orphaned and rehabilitated Orangutans into the wilds of Borneo. The process is clearly a deeply stressful one - but the images of the gorgeous beasts and their young gamboling about in the trees and the smooth narration of Juliet Stevenson lulls you into a strange sense of confidence about the whole endeavour.
The central figure is Lone Drøscher Nielsen, a rather emotive Danish conservationist who seems to be spearheading the whole thing and dashes here and there in a frantic state. Afterwards though things apparently soured and she left the project. The whole scenario seems a nest of complications and disappointments - it's a testament to editing that the programme seems to have such a strangely mellow vibe despite everything. The embattled orange ape never seems to catch a break, but to see them in their element, they really do seem worth the bother.
