Storyline

Spenser (Mark Wahlberg) - an ex-cop better known for making trouble than solving it - just got out of prison and is leaving Boston for good. But first he gets roped into helping his old boxing coach and mentor, Henry (Alan Arkin), with a promising amateur. That's Hawk (Winston Duke), a brash, no-nonsense MMA fighter convinced he'll be a tougher opponent than Spenser ever was. When two of Spenser's former colleagues turn up murdered, he recruits Hawk and his foul-mouthed ex-girlfriend, Cissy (Iliza Shlesinger), to help him investigate and bring the culprits to justice. Inspired by Robert B. Parker's Wonderland, a best-selling novel by Ace Atkins. Written by Netflix

Spenser: Marty Foley? Henry, I went to high school with him.
Henry: Oh, shit. Somebody change that channel. The Bruins are playing.
Batallion Chief Foley: I have kids. I would never do this. I swear to God I would never do this. I need help!
Cissy Davis: [seeing the determination in Spenser's face] No.
Henry: The Bruins, please!
Batallion Chief Foley: I need help! I need help!
Cissy Davis: No. No!

A GOOD P.I. MOVIE!
6 March 2020 | by clarkishomeSee all my reviews

I was a fan of the original Spencer for hire series on TV. Seeing that Mark Wahlberg was raised in the Boston area this is a just right fit for him. Having grown up in many different cities, including the Boston area , this movie brings a lot of memories back. Wahlberg brings his unique sarcasm, wit and physical presence to the role. Although it is somewhat different than the series, it is a good PI movie that you will enjoy. The thing that people have to remember is that you have to judge movies based on categories. This will never win an Academy award, but I would not compare it to titanic or pretty woman because that's not the type of movie it is. This is an action, comedy, and some what of a mystery. If you're looking for a good action movie with unique personalities and some comedy thrown in, this is your movie, enjoy.
