Storyline

On a lonely slanted roof, a hunched figure plays the fiddle. His soulful music finds its way into the simple homes of the people of Anatevka. But this fiddler did not always sit on the roof. Come to think of it, he didn't always have a fiddle to play either. Based on Sholem Aleichem's short story "The Fiddle", this is the story of Sholom, the boy that was destined to become the fiddler on the roof.

During the attic scene where Sholom finds the couch, there is a Chagall painting hanging on the wall. The painting is titled Fiddler on the Roof (1971) from which The Broadway show/film Fiddler on the Roof (1971) got its title.

Well done film

I have to say that this film is really great .. I've seen it in the festival , was very seprised of the idea for the story to take place before the original story - the fiddler on the roof. Brilliant idea , and we'll executed.
