Historiography!!
shivaaqsani14 June 2019
Although many important historical facts have been removed from the film, I am very pleased that the Universal House of Justice ultimately agreed to publish a film about the birth of the Baha'i Faith.

Exaggeration in the story A story that is far from reality is more like a fairy tale

Does the Universal House of Justice endorse this film?
monayavary18 June 2019
I watched this movie with my bahai friends and we were very disappointed because the story of Bab was narrated with a very poor scenario.

historical lies

I have a suggestion for film makers

read some more history if you have a goal

The film is full of historical lies.

Compelling story

This is an accurate retelling of the early history of the Baha'i Faith, in line with many accounts of the events described by those who witnessed them.

Really very good short introduction
aehend-9438511 February 2020
This film is a very well-made and historically accurate retelling of a bit of the life of the Bab and the beginning of the Baha'i Faith. Recommended for those interested in the subjects of religion, the Baha'i Faith, Persian studies, or what historically happened when a young man with a claim to be a Messenger from God appears in 1800s Iran.

Excellent introduction to the Baha'i Faith
marvpeck12 August 2019
Very well done introduction to the birth of the Baha'i Faith. Most people know very little about this. The director has done an excellent job of bringing this important story to the screen and capturing the excitement of the story while remaining faithful to the facts. Not an easy task when covering a religious story that few know anything about it.

Overall a nice watch on its own merits
miscellaneous-657-35393329 January 2020
Firstly, I enjoyed watching this film. It's a good introduction to the standard Baha'i history through the medium of film, and anyone who wants a quick entrance into that history should enjoy it - typically Baha'is, people enquiring about the Baha'i Faith, or those learning about it for other reasons, such as religious studies. Films bring things to life in an enjoyable way. If you're going to watch it in the expectation it will be a major film with Charlton Heston playing then of course you'll only be disappointed, but if you go into its viewing to enjoy seeing something in film about the Baha'i history, you will enjoy it and it will have been time well spent. In particular its format mixes re-enactment with narrative conversation/expression, but it's not one that provides debates and maybes, which I would myself have enjoyed seeing, it presents a pre-packaged story, so-to-speak; but every production has its style. It's not though a substitute for a deeper reading of the history from a wide range of accounts, which should always be carried out, and it does contain some 'wonders' that likely never happened, but they are only a minor element. Note that contrary to various comments, it is an individual initiative, not a production etc of the House of Justice, who in my experience provide in their productions a very high-quality experience combined with (in distinction from this) a free download.

A Great Summary of the Bab in Iran
abehjat-551-77749312 February 2020
The Gate follows the history of the Bab, who is equivalent to John the Baptist among the believers of the Baha'i Faith. The documentary begins with setting the foundation of history, giving a glimpse into the history of Iran and the time where the Bab faced both great challenges and victories in declaring His mission.

The production quality of the documentary is great, and pacing is good. The documentary places great emphasis on the overarching theme of delivering the Message of Baha'u'llah and the Bab, whom Baha'is consider as Prophets from God, and the two entities whose Teachings are essential for this age.

Artful and historically accurate portrayal of The Bab- loved it!
nicholedvm12 February 2020
This documentary was a great combination of the scenic beauty and cultural richness of Iranians in the 1800's and also will evoke some very strong opposition due to the fact that the political leaders of Iran rely on subversion of their people and oppression of women for their own gain. Do not be fooled by the negative reviews. They are trolls who are trying to hide the truth. This documentary is brilliant and if you see it with your own eyes, you will love it!

A Movie Only Fanatic Extremists Would Hate
georgevia12 February 2020
We are entering a new era in the unfoldment of the Baha'i Faith, and so naturally the forces of darkness will resist the light of the Sun of Truth and cling to their idle fancies and perpetuate systems that have been abolished. Some of these dark forces have even submitted disparaging reviews about this wondeful movie. Alas, it has always been so. The Gate is a good movie.

The Gate is a must see. Beautiful, historical film about the birth of the Babi and Baha'I Faiths - whose core teaching is that we are all children of the same Creator.

Excellent Introduction to the Baha'i Faith
sgsrpoz11 February 2020
After seeing the movie several times in different settings, it remains a consistent positive experience and is well presented. Editing in the case of important data is a challenge and people who know the history of the Baha'i Faith may miss a particular point that is significant to them but does not alter the intent of the film' The negative review are interesting and some may indicate a person searching for truth rather than opposing a new truth. If so, may God bless their search and not let their inner vision become clouded. To those who presently oppose the Baha'i Teachings, Please consider these words from the Dali Lama: "I find hope in the darkest of days, and focus in the brightest. I do not judge the universe."

A good hitorical summary of the early Days of the Baha'i Faith
tonyfish-5652511 February 2020
The movie has it challenges as the Bab can not be portrayed by an actor. So making movies without the first person is an art in the making.

I enjoyed the story and the movie scenes made around that story.

If you wish to learn about the early days of the Baha'i Faith, this is a movie to pursue.

Wow, global human unity is possible
smile-0841411 February 2020
Apparently this documentary is being rated based on the subject, It's like giving a documentary about vegans 0 stars because you are a carnivore!!! Does Free speech include hate speech? Anyway the essence of this film is UNIQUELY refreshing & beautiful, when the news & other forms of media particularly in America can be so "life discouraging". Give yourself a positive boost and see for yourself.

reverent and informative
capps-fle11 February 2020
Given that the Baha'i Faith does not allow any person to represent a Manifestation of God it makes it very challenging to create a film about a Manifestation, a Prophet, a Messenger of God as the main character without anyone acting the part, but they did well here. As far as biographical films go, especially one about a Divine Person, this one covers a lot of ground in a beautiful and interesting way. I hope people will watch it to learn about the first of the Twin Prophets who came to re-spiritualize the world.
