The protagonist of "Pain and Glory" was at the decline of his career. The man involuntarily looks back into the past, and a stream of vivid memories falls upon him. He recalls such moments from his youth as tender feelings for his mother, love and separation, the search for happiness and success. All this leads the master of cinema to important thoughts about life and art, because this is the most important thing for him. Written by Peter-Patrick76 (peter-patrick@mail.com)
I can see why this film will not please everyone but I think people of a certain age & long time fans of Almodovar will find much to appreciate in this mature work. Antonia Banderas gives an Oscar worthy performance & is worth the ticket price alone. On the surface not a lot of drama happens but on a deeper level this film examines grief, mortality, ageing, regret, religion , sexuality & much more. It's a film that you will be thinking about long after it has finished.
