Despite taking place in Chicago, much of the film was shot in Toronto, Canada. During the scene when they are in the dinosaur museum, that is in fact the Royal Ontario Museum in downtown Toronto.

When JJ enters the apartment and discovers Kate having trouble with the leaking water line, it is shown that the leak is coming from where the line enters the shut-off valve. After JJ makes the leak worse, Kate quickly reaches in and closes the valve, stopping the leak. Since the leak was coming from below the valve, closing it would not stop the leak. Closing the valve would only stop leaks which occur above it.

The "actor" Thelonius J. Monkfish is credited as playing the fish "Blueberry".
