Dave Bautista Pic ‘My Spy’ Slips Out Of Summer Away From ‘Stuber’

Deadline has confirmed that Stx’s Dave Bautista action comedy My Spy is moving off its August 23 release date to a Tba date during Q1 2020.

Word is that the studio wants to put some room between My Spy and Bautista’s other action comedy from 20th Century Fox. Stuber, which opens this weekend. We hear that the pic isn’t suppose to wow, with an opening around $11M. Stx is forgoing a situation it was in last summer with Melissa McCarthy. She had the late-August raunchy puppet film The Happytime Murders with Stx but alreadt had done press earlier in the summer for New Line’s Life of the Party. McCarthy wasn’t available at the time due to production on another film, but she showed up at Tiff a couple of weeks later to promote her award-season contender Can You Ever Forgive Me?

Chadwick Boseman-Russo Bros Actioner ‘21 Bridges’ Moves To Fall As Stx Sets Dave Bautista’s ‘My Spy’ For Summer

Stx made a pair of scheduling moves today, shifting its Russo Brothers/Chadwick Boseman actioner 21 Bridges from July 12 to September 27 and dating the Dave Bautista action comedy My Spy for August 23.

It’s the first release day for My Spy, which stars wrestler-turned-actor Bautista as a hardened CIA operative The pic will open wide against Lionsgate action threequel Angel Has Fallen, Sony drama Overcomer and Fox Searchlight’s horror pic Ready or Not. It’s the only PG-13 comedy opening in the weeks leading up to, and after, the 23rd.

The thriller, 21 Bridges (fka 17 Bridges) features Black Panther star Boseman as a disgraced NYPD detective who, after being thrust into a citywide manhunt for a cop killer, is given a shot at redemption. Co-starring J.K. Simmons, Sienna Miller, Taylor Kitsch and Stephan James,

‘Official Secrets’: Keira Knightley-Ralph Fiennes Whistleblower Thriller Gets Release Date Via IFC Films

As the UK’s Brexit political thriller plays out in real time, IFC Films has set a release date for director Gavin Hood’s take on another one from 15 years ago. Official Secrets, the story of Iraq-invasion whistleblower Katharine Gun, will hit select theaters on August 23.

The film, which premiered at Sundance in January, stars Keira Knightley as Gun. Charged with breaking the Official Secrets Act in Britain, and facing imprisonment, she reaches out to Ben Emmerson (Ralph Fiennes), one of the top lawyers in the country, to take her case and defend her actions. With her life, freedom and marriage threatened, Gun risks everything by leaking a classified email to the press in the hope that this simple act could help halt an unjust war.

The pic also stars Matthew Goode, Adam Bakri and Matt Smith as journalist Martin Bright, who first publicly broke the news about the memo.

Paramount Dates ‘Crawl’ & ‘Playing With Fire’, Moves ‘Loud House’ Off Schedule

Paramount Pictures has set release dates for horror pic Crawl and Paramount Players drama Playing with Fire and pulled from its schedule the TV toon adaptation of The Loud House, which had been set for February 2020.

Directed by Alexandre Aja with producers Craig Flores and Sam Raimi, Crawl will hit theaters August 23. It stars Kaya Scodelario as a young woman who becomes trapped in a flooding house during a Category 5 hurricane and must battle against Florida’s most savage and feared predators. It will open against Lionsgate action sequel Angel Has Fallen and Sony’s Kendrick brothers drama Overcomer.

Gerard Butler's 'Angel Has Fallen' Gets Summer 2019 Release Date

Lionsgate will release Angel Has Fallen, the third in the series of amped-up action movies in which Gerard Butler plays Secret Service agent Mike Banning, on Aug. 23, 2019.

The only competition currently occupying that date is Alex Kendrick’s Overcomer, an inspirational drama about a high school coach who takes on a cross-country runner, from Sony’s Affirm label.

‘Greyhound’ Release Date Changes Again As Sony Moves Tom Hanks WWII Pic To March – Update

Updated, 2:23 Pm: For the second time in a month, Sony Pictures has shifted the release date of its Tom Hanks World War II movie Greyhound. The Aaron Schneider-helmed film now will open March 22, after being moved from April 5 to February 8.

On its new new weekend, the Allies-vs.-U-boats film will take to the seas against Lionsgate’s romantic drama Five Feet Apart from CBS Films and Annapurna’s Richard Linklater dramedy Where’d You Go Bernadette.

Previously, May 31: Sony has decided to go earlier in 2019 than later with Greyhound, the Tom Hanks-scripted World War II drama that the two-time Oscar winner also stars in, directed by Aaron Schneider. Greyhound will now open on Feb. 8 instead of April 5.
