Storyline

A family gets together one summer day to celebrate the mother's 70 birthday. There's her husband, their two sons, one with his wife and their two boys, the other with his new girlfriend, a movie camera to immortalize the event and a young woman eighteen years old who seems to have grown up here. Things seem peaceful and joyous until the unexpected arrival of the younger sister who had vanished four years before. She is greeted like the prodigal daughter but brings chaos in tow. Good but maybe too depressing
22 November 2020 | by bernhard293See all my reviews

Grim drama about a dysfunctional family. The acting is very good. The cinematography, music and interiors are very artful. The arts are a recurring theme in this movie as seen in the child play and the movie in the movie. The story centers on the troubled half sisters return after three years absence to the family at the matriarchs birthday. Main themes are money, manipulation and mental illness (bipolar or borderline?). The breakdowns are painful to watch. It's not a feel good movie, maybe therefore the low ratings.
