A girl unwilling to let go of her dead mothers ashes(Asthi) in the Ganges.

A girl Meera who runs off with her mother's Ashes to Haridwar to immerse them. Meera(Antara) is full of conflicts and sadness as old memories and the golden soothing voice of her mother, Saroja Devi come back. She visits the ghats but is unable to immerse them. A surreal conversation begins with the Ashes as she travels the Ganges. Shot in Haridwar, a ambiance and the Ganga are mesmerizing.—Dinkar rao

Actress Antara Rao's film Asthi is at the Short Film Corner at Cannes film festival in May. A student of Jesus & Mary College Delhi Antara plays the main protagonist of a girl Meera who runs off with her mother's Ashes to Haridwar to immerse them. Meera(Antara) is full of conflicts and sadness as old memories and the golden soothing voice of her mother, Saroja Devi come back. She visits the ghats but is unable to immerse them. A surreal conversation begins with the Ashes as she travels the Ganges.Meera is shattered by her mother,s death and her journey with the pot of ashes ,the asthi takes her to the Madi Astrologer in Haridwar to find some clue about her mother's past .She desperately wants to connect with her mother again.The pot of ashes is the only physical connection left and she wasn't going to let go of them.She runs back from the ghat unable to let of the ashes.Finally ,she decides to immerse the ashes pot. Shot in Haridwar, the locations on the ghats of the Ganga are mesmerizing. Antara moves into a character effortlessly with a subtle performance. Antara says "I was moving around Haridwar with the pot of Ashes (Asthi) and many people in the bazaars, the ghats and the Rickshaw wallahs would be very curious. So many days went by in the shoot and for me it was like a surreal world with my mother's Asthi." The film has two versions, a 30 minutes one and one of 14 minutes which is at the Cannes Short film Corner. Director Dinkar Rao says that "Am not sure about finding any buyers but being at Cannes is a such a great experience. I have directed three feature films Railway Raju, Szoya the black widow , which was received well at Strasbourg film festival and Cinnecitta, Rome and Papoo Photowalah but none have released. Now, I am used to it." Meenakshi Roy , a trained classical singer from Banaras Hindu University has sung six classical songs in the film. At the Cannes Film Festival 2018.Short film Corner.
