The movie had a final budget of around US $200 million, which was Netflix's biggest budget at the time for a feature film. The original budget was much lower but still somewhere around $130 million, due to the three leads reportedly earning US $20 million each. Then the COVID-19 pandemic caused several costly delays and setbacks that drove up the budget. Ryan Reynolds also half-seriously stated that he ruined many takes with his spontaneous jokes and improvisations, which necessitated more costly days of filming.

The movie's MacGuffin is a set of three ancient bejeweled antiquities known as ''Cleopatra's Eggs''. "MacGuffin" is the Hitchcockian term for the object at stake in a suspense-thriller. Hitchcock actually explained it as one man telling another that it is "a device to hunt lions in Scotland", and when the other man replies that there aren't any lions in Scotland, the first says "Guess there isn't a MacGuffin, then." So, the MacGuffin is the object that sets the plot in motion but has very little real significance in the plot and it is pretty much useless. It is actually mentioned in the movie when Nolan Booth (Ryan Reynolds) quips: "Look for a box that says 'MacGuffin'."

The meaning of the character name ''Sotto Voce'' played by actor Chris Diamantopoulos is undertone or to lower one's voice or being under one's breath or in a private manner. This matches the character's soft voice, presumably a result of his father strangling him as a child.

The meaning and relevance of the movie's title; 'Red Notice' refers to an Interpol term for formal notification which is issued for its most wanted criminals. Interpol defines it on their website as: "...a request to law enforcement worldwide to locate and provisionally arrest a person pending extradition, surrender, or similar legal action. It contains two main types of information: information to identify the wanted person, such as their name, date of birth, nationality, hair and eye colour, photographs and fingerprints if available [and] information related to the crime they are wanted for, which can typically be murder, rape, child abuse or armed robbery. Red Notices are published by Interpol at the request of a member country, and must comply with Interpol's constitution and rules. A Red Notice is not an international arrest warrant."

The Great Pyramid of Giza, the tomb of Cheops was build around 2550 BCE in Cairo, and while Cleopatra was the queen of Egypt she was also of Greek descent, ruled from the city of Alexandria and lived closer to modern times than the pharaohs of ancient Egypt. Even if it's ultimately a ruse, The Bishop would have known the concealment story was highly unlikely.
