Yossarian portends to be the everyman. We are led into his world here. We begin to understand that to the generals and the powerful, men are mere cannon fodder. As long as the war is going well and PR is good, the loss of life and the horrible pain of going on extra missions satisfies their lust. We are also introduced to the commercial aspect of war as the outrageous Milo Minderbinder makes his plans known.
