Did You Know?

Rocky 3 is mentioned. Rocky 1 and Karate Kid have the same director, John G. Avildsen. See more »

Although Daniel LaRusso - having begun training just a few months before the tournament - fights as a black belt in the original film, it's because Mr. Miyagi fudges the entrance form and literally steals a black belt for Daniel to wear. The Cobra Kai students in this series all fight as black belts in the tournament, despite having trained for less than a year. It takes years to become a black belt in karate, and Cobra Kai, as a registered dojo with All Valley, would not have got away with fudging their students' status. It is, however, possible that Robby pulled the same stunt Daniel did years earlier since he's fighting as a single, unaffiliated competitor. See more »

Daniel LaRusso: Look, Robby... your dad and I, we have our issues. But you and him? That's another story.

I'm going to say this now. I have never enjoyed a finale quite this much. From the karate fights, to the strong character moments and drama, to the humorous and well-timed callbacks to the original movie. "Mercy" does what any finale should, wrapping up just enough stories to leave room for what seems to be a second season. That might be my only problem with this finale. It ends on several cliffhangers which make the wait for the next season all the more agonising. Cobra Kai has revived the Karate Kid saga in ways that I never expected and this episode further cements that.
