Storyline

The captain of the Russian national team Yuri Stoleshnikov does not score a penalty in the last minutes of the decisive qualifying match for the World Cup with the national team of Romania. Then he knocks down an opponent, screams at the judge, gets a red card and, leaving the field, starts a fight with the fans. As a result, the team loses 0: 1, and Stoleshnikov receives an annual disqualification, leaves the "Spartak" and decides to retire. Two years have passed, Stoleshnikov never found a job. Suddenly, he is offered the post of head coach of the team "Meteor" from Novorossiysk, playing in the second league of the Russian championship. Written by Peter-Patrick76 (peter-patrick@mail.com)

Trivia

About three thousand professional football players auditioned for a role in the picture, from whom the creators of the project selected about 200 people. Among them were Alan Gatagov and Dmitriy Sychyov; the latter compared Kozlovsky with Guus Hiddink based on the results of the shooting, who combining exactingness and democracy, managed to lead the national team to bronze medals of Euro 2008. For two months, the team, assembled from athletes and professional actors, lived on a tough athletic regimen. Kozlovsky trained with them too. See more »

Good movie which shows specific of Russian football in low ranged leagues
13 August 2020 | by rhaportSee all my reviews

I enjoyed watching this movie. Good actors and good story. The story is not complicated but with lot of feeling. Also, for people who is familiar with Russian football system, it would be interesting to see how the problematic is illustrated. Okay, it is a little bit exaggerated (for example great support of fans for a team from the 2nd league) but this is OK for a movie. I would watch this movie again and recommend others.
