Makeup designer Jeremy Woodhead had to prosthetically extend the tip of Renée Zellweger's nose ever so slightly in order to better match Judy Garland's profile. Dark-gray contact lenses were fitted to approximate Garland's dark brown eyes, and a cropped walnut-brown wig was fashioned to resemble Garland's iconic hairdo. See more »
The few coins she had to call America would not have allowed a lengthy call to America. The cost of a phone call to USA in 1969 would have been prohibitively expensive from a phone box, without constant, frequent additions of more coins. Who has never seen "The Wizard of Oz"? What would that movie be without Judy Garland as Dorothy? The early stages of a very significant career.
In this new biopic Renée Zellweger gives one of her better performances as Judy Garland, and her singing is very appropriate. While biopics don't have lots of latitude, if they follow the factual life of the subject, they can be done dryly or they can be done with a spark. This one has that spark.
This movie is a very worthwhile look at the life of Judy Garland. See it for Judy, or see it for Renee, or see it for both ... just see it.
