Davie Jonas, a former submarine navigator, has reclused himself in his motel room since his submarine sank killing half the crew. Though it seems like just yesterday to him, he has actually been hidden in his room for many years, losing track of time and space. No one has ever seen him. He orders everything he needs to be delivered to his door including the same book over and over again from a local bookstore when the current one wears out. Upon the latest order placed, the bookstore manager ask his young female employee if she would deliver it to him on her way home from work. Jonnie Rhey says she will but wonders why he doesn't pick it up himself. The manager explains the mysterious sailors living conditions. On a bet, Jonnnie Rhey says she can get in to see the hermit with the promise of a bonus if she can accomplish the deed. She invents an injury to get the sailor to open the door but in performing her 'act' she actually does injure herself. The door swiftly opens and she is swooped up into strong arms and whisked away behind the closed door. She quickly discovers the elusive man is quite nice and handsome and immediately the two are attracted to each other. Davie tells him her sad story and that he has not left his motel room since the devastating accident many years before. Time seems to have stopped inside the little room as Davie does not appear to have aged at all in all those years. His submariner clock had stopped running when he shut the door last but the entrance of Jonnie has seemed to trigger it to run again and spin rapidly out of control. As the time progresses inside the room, Jonnie notices the room is beginning to change. Things are quickly aging in the room. The wallpaper starts peeling, and the furniture is decaying. Davie himself is going through rapid aging becoming grayer and much older right before her eyes. It seems as though the entrance of Jonnie into his world has jump started Davie's stalled internal clock and time is rapidly catching up with him, but is it too late for newfound love?
