DVD: I expected worse, I'll say that much
You know those Youtube channels devoted entirely to recording peoples reactions to things? Yeah those ones, they're beyond stupid. Well our initial guy has one of those, he likes to watch movies with his girlfriend while recording his reaction but this time is different. His girlfriend brings in a blank cased DVD that she was given and it turns out to be a 3 part horror anthology
So 3 stories and the wrap around, all filmed as found footage. Now there is no shortage of found footage films, in fact it's getting a bit stupid. It's like every Joe Average who doesn't have the money to make a real film makes one of these instead and generally they're terrible.
Found footage anthology has been done as well, both by independent film makers and on a larger scale such as the VHS (2012) franchise. Get it yet? VHS.....DVD same movie genre! Yeah, there is a fine line between homage and ripoff and I'm not sure which side of the line DVD sits.
Anyway the stories involve a hitchhiker who gets more than he expected, two guys recording themselves training in the woods at night time (What could possibly go wrong there?) and a Skype call between two brothers at a really bad time.
I've seen a lot worse, I've seen a lot better. This is so obscure and has such little awareness that at time of writing it doesn't even have the 5 votes on IMDB needed to give it an average and this is the first review.
If I could speak to the films creators I'd say despite my rating that they should keep at it but unless you're going to make something original of the found footage format then perhaps consider dropping it.
Remember anthology's are only as good as it's weakest link, for me ratings wise it was Story 1: 7 Story 2: 6 Story 3: 4 and the wrap around was a 3. So though there is some good content it gets dragged down by the less than entertaining stuff.
Apparently there is a sequel, let's see if the creators learnt from their mistakes.
Couple of fairly original moments
I have a weakness for clowns in horror
Wraparound is pretty bad
Suffers from many of found footage's usual tropes
Things I Learnt From This Movie:
From VHS to DVD, you'd think this was made by The Asylum!
