She has been officially approved at the Busan International Film Festival (Biff)’s general assembly and will commence a four-year term this Friday (March 8). She was previously Program Director of the Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival. Kim is well known to Acfm, having played a key role in establishing the event in the 2006s, and co-produced arthouse films such as Cry Woman in 2002 and Sewing Sisters 18 years later. She also held several key roles at Acfm’s parent, the Biff, which has now passed this year’s business plan and budget at the general assembly, as it bids to return to normalcy after a string of resignations last year. Trespassers is this hilarious yet nail-biting Netflix movie that totally had me hooked! Three girls, Tanaka, Megumi, and Eto decide to sneak into someone’s house, thinking they could score some hidden money stashed away as tax evasion fraud. But the film turned out to be a wild ride. As they attempt the flawless heist, they find themselves entangled in a series of unforeseen events. The events that unfold are simultaneously funny and heart-pounding, making the viewers wonder if these girls will make it out alive or end up behind bars. The best part of the movie lies in the whimsical manner in which the mystery unravels, which would have anyone sitting on the edge of their seat. What kept me glued to the screen was the constant anticipation of what crazy twist would come next. The three girls find themselves in increasingly absurd situations, and surprising revelations constantly hit them in the face.

The struggle to keep movie theaters alive gets very personal in “Showdown at the Grand,” an enjoyable tribute to retro exploitation pictures with Terrance Howard as a movie palace proprietor besieged by diminishing receipts and violent goons. Dolph Lundgren plays the former action star who shows up for a personal appearance, then stays to help save the joint from those agents of unscrupulous developers. More low-key homage than campy cartoon, writer-director Orson Oblowitz’s fourth feature does manage to deliver some tongue-in-cheek mayhem in an extended climax.

“The following is based more on fact than fiction.” These words appear in Daughter’s opening credits. Combined with footage of two gas-masked figures, Father, and Brother chasing down a young woman it gives the feeling that we’re about to see another piece of low budget psycho cinema. When they catch up to her Father beats her to death with a hammer, which only reinforces that impression.
Impressions can be deceiving however and Corey Deshon who makes his feature film directorial debut, having previously written Trespassers, has something very different in mind even if it isn’t immediately obvious.
When we next see Father he’s with another woman, this one tied up on the garage floor. He tells her that he doesn’t want any harm to come to her...

On Tuesday, actor Zachary Horwitz (known professionally as Zach Avery) was arrested on charges of wire fraud, as reported by the Los Angeles Times.
The FBI and SEC allege that Horwitz ran a Ponzi scheme through his company, 1inMM, which defrauded investors of $227 million.
Allegedly, Horwitz told investors that his company invested in film rights, subsequently reselling these rights to distributors like Netflix and HBO. He is said to have sold people on his scheme by showing them fake licensing and distribution agreements, featuring forged signatures. Ultimately, however, both of the above companies confirmed to the FBI that they’d never conducted business with 1nMM.
It is believed that Horwitz began receiving funds as part of the Ponzi scheme in 2015, using them to purchase a $6 million home in the Beverlywood neighborhood of Los Angeles, while repaying earlier investors.
Horwitz’s credits as an actor include low-budget features such as Trespassers and The Devil Below.

Interview: Director Orson Oblowitz on the Challenges and Lessons He Learned While Making Trespassers
Set to hit theaters in Los Angeles and New York tomorrow is Orson Oblowitz’s home invasion thriller Trespassers, which stars Angela Trimbur and Fairuza Balk (two of this writer’s favorite actresses), as well as Zach Avery, Janel Parrish,g and Jonathan Howard. The story follows two couples who Airbnb a house in the middle of the desert for a weekend to try to work out their respective issues, but things go horribly awry once they find themselves in a fight for their lives.
Daily Dead recently chatted with Trespassers director Orson Oblowitz about his initial interest in taking on the project, as well as the casting process, the challenges of creating the film’s visual style, how working on the project transformed him as an artist, and more.

A weekend getaway goes sour even before the corpses start accruing in “Trespassers,” a good-looking indie thriller that’s diverting, but could have used another script draft or two. Depicting two quarrelsome if hard-bodied couples who find themselves in deep peril at a rented desert home, Orson Oblowitz’s film has a leisurely enough buildup that room should have been made for more fully developed characters. Fine-tuning the pileup of eventual violent crises wouldn’t have hurt, either. The result falls short of being especially credible, let alone memorable. Still, this is a polished genre exercise that provides a decent night’s home entertainment. IFC Midnight is opening it July 12 on screens in New York and Los Angeles, simultaneous with its launch on demand.

"Sometimes you just can't stop what's coming..." IFC Midnight has released an official trailer for an indie horror film titled Trespassers, the latest from filmmaker Orson Oblowitz (The Queen of Hollywood Blvd). The home invasion horror premiered at FrightFest London last year, and also played in Germany's Fantasy Filmfest. Two couples rent a modern luxury desert home for the weekend hoping to sort out their messed-up lives. Just as they are about to settle in, a woman shows up at their door. And that's when the murderous trouble really starts. Because without knowing it, these four friends have just landed slap-bang in the wrong violent place at precisely the wrong bloody time. Starring Angela Trimbur, Zach Avery, Janel Parrish, Jonathan Howard, Fairuza Balk, Carlo Rota, Sebastian Sozzi, and Joey Abril. This seems so much like a been-there, done-that horror rehash pulling from You're Next and everything else we've already seen.

The Strangers writer-director Bryan Bertino's new nightmare The Dark & the Wicked has just snagged it's cast in the form of Marin Ireland (The Miseducation of Cameron Post), Michael Abbott Jr. (The Death of Dick Long), and Xander Berkeley (The Walking Dead). Bertino's new film follows the tale of terror centering on two siblings who are summoned back to the family farm to await the inevitability of their father's death, and what initially appears to be a timeless ritual of loss and remembrance turns out to be something very different.
While this has not been confirmed, I can only imagine that Ireland and Abbott Jr. will be playing the siblings mentioned above while Berkeley will be portraying the family patriarch at the end of his life. But again, this has not been confirmed at this time.
One of the main reasons I'm excited about today's news is the inclusion of actor Xander Berkeley.

You’ve done every film related job from producer and actor to cinematographer and editor. Was directing always the goal?
Poverty dictates…I would just take any position I could and figure it out from there, especially when I made The Queen Of Hollywood Blvd. where I just didn’t have the budget and had to take on as many positions as I could. Directing was always the ultimate goal though. Funny enough, the genesis of Hell came from a job I had done years before when I was camera operating on a feature film The Ganzfeld Experiment. It was a crazy production, and my dad was the director. The line producer of Ganzfeld was Julio Hallivis. We became friends and stayed in touch. Cut to five years later, I show Julio my first film The Queen of Hollywood Blvd. and he says “Hey man, I got a script I think you will dig.

If you thought that Lara Jean's older sister looked familiar in the To All the Boys I've Loved Before teaser, then you thought right. In the upcoming Netflix adaptation of Jenny Han's bestselling novel, Lara Jean (played by Lana Condor) accidentally reveals her secret feelings for all five of her former crushes, and her wise big sis, Margot, is played by Janel Parrish, best known as Mona Vanderwaal on Pretty Little Liars. Seriously, the cast for this movie is out-of-control good.
You probably don't even remember whether or not you liked Mona after the series finale, and we can't blame you. Parrish's Pll character led a complicated arc, playing the show's main antagonist for the first two seasons, and then again during the first half of the fifth season. But besides hitting Bethany Young with a shovel, killing Charlotte Dilaurentis, and making a deal with "A...

Screen Media Films has released the first trailer and poster for Curvature, which puts an interesting twist on the time travel genre. The thriller stars Lyndsy Fonseca as a scientist, who must break into a top-secret facility in order to travel back in time and prevent a murder after receiving a mysterious phone call from herself. While we won't know for sure until next month when it hits theaters, this movie could be one of the first sleeper hits of 2018.
The film had its world premiere at the Shriekfest Film Festival in October, where it won Best Sci-Fi Feature, followed by a screening at the Stiges Film Festival. Screen Media Films has slated the film for release on February 23, 2018, in limited release and through on demand formats. While late February doesn't often produce box office blockbusters, there are four high-profile movies opening in wide release that weekend. Paramount's Annihilation,...
